Union Goons Go After Aspiring Eagle Scout

No good deed goes unpunished, in a country dominated by Comrade Obama's union cronies:

In pursuit of an Eagle Scout badge, Kevin Anderson, 17, has toiled for more than 200 hours over several weeks to clear a walking path in an east Allentown park.

Little did the do-gooder know that his altruistic act would put him in the cross hairs of the city's largest municipal union.

Nick Balzano, president of the local Service Employees International Union, told Allentown City Council Tuesday that the union is considering filing a grievance against the city for allowing Anderson to clear a 1,000-foot walking and biking path at Kimmets Lock Park.

"We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano told the council.

Balzano said Saturday he isn't targeting Boy Scouts. But given the city's decision in July to lay off 39 SEIU members, Balzano said "there's to be no volunteers." No one except union members may pick up a hoe or shovel, plant a flower or clear a walking path.

Fortunately, it looks like the union may be sensitive enough to public opinion to drop the issue. We wouldn't want Kevin to end up like Ken Gladney, who ran afoul of the SEIU by protesting Obamao's plans to seize control of the healthcare industry.

Actually, Huron, Scouting has a quite a detailed set of rules and procedures in place to keep all the boys safe...but I'm sure you wouldn't believe that anyway.

And yet another example of a liberal mired in stereotyping and ultimately in his own intolerance. From his comment, it would appear that this clown can't even conceptualise of a man helping kids out for any other than dark, perverted reasons. The statement "Why else would a grown man want to hang out with children on a regular basis? Not just children, but only young boys." appears to be a straightforward projection of his own thoughts and feelings onto the world around him. I'm wondering if it was his step-father or possibly all of the various "uncles" his mum brought home from the bars who laid the foundation for this myopic worldview.

I agree, Warner. Public employee unions are a problem if for no other reason than this: their very existence and purpose is to grow the bureaucracy and government. More jobs and better wages for their guys = bigger, more expensive government and that means more taxes, less liberty, and more government intrusion.

That's all bad.
