HuffPo: BP Oil Spill Proves We Should All Live In Huts, Ride Horses, And Burn Our Own Feces For Warmth

Peter Daou, who used to come across as semi-moderate — for a liberal anyway — is in full “Apocalypse Now” mode over the BP Oil spill. There’s a lot here to cover, so let’s take it one wild eyed excerpt at a time:

A calamity is unfolding before our eyes – the greatest oil spill in history – and America’s response is little more than a big yawn. …Where is the White House? Where are Republicans? Where are Democrats? Where is the left? Where is the right? Where is the “fierce urgency of now?”

As Sarah Palin pointed out,

More than 3.5 million dollars has been given to candidates by BP over the last 20 years, with the largest single donation, 77,051 dollars, going to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Palin suggested this close relationship explained why Obama was, “taking so doggone long to get in there, to dive in there, and grasp the complexity and the potential tragedy that we are seeing here in the Gulf of Mexico.”

That probably has a lot to do with the fact that BP was getting safety awards for this very rig, right before the spill. That’s how Chicago style politics works: You put:  money in one end and you get favors on the other end. Of course, if it gets politically embarrassing, then it’s right under the bus you go. That’s where the Obama:  Administration is on the BP oil spill now and the Democrats in Congress are running around pretending to be outraged over this, just like Peter Daou.

Everyone else recognizes that without oil, we’d all be living in : huts, riding horses, and burning our own feces for warmth. So, our attitude is more like, “Let’s get the leak stopped, clean it up, fix the problem, and drill, baby, drill to get more of that sweet, sweet : crude.”

Blaming BP for being greedy and destructive is the least we should do, not the only thing we do. We need to turn the tide once and for all against those whose ideological rigidity is ravaging the planet.

Here’s a thought: Although corporations are often greedy — it’s their nature — it’s not an explanation in this case. An:  oil spill of this magnitude can cost billions and generate almost unbelievable levels of bad publicity. So, it’s probably more about them screwing up than about raw greed.

The Gulf disaster is a singular moment – an opportunity to bring the human race together to save itself, to protect its only home. This should be a rocket-boost for the environmental movement, a time to finally put to rest the notion that environmentalists are misguided alarmists, a chance to finally marginalize green-bashers and put an end to their fatal obstructionism.

We’re going to bring the human race together to protect itself? From what? Electricity? Cars? Environmental nuts like Daou want to have it both ways. They want to enjoy all the benefits of a modern society while opposing the energy sources that make it possible. If guys like Daou believed their own BS, they wouldn’t be writing for the Huffington Post; : they’d be sitting in the middle of a remote village somewhere eating yams and roots they gathered earlier in the day and trying to figure out how to play a flute they carved:  out:  of an:  elk bone. That’s what your life would be like without oil. Embrace it, : Daou.

That this lame response from various quarters of the administration, Congress, the media and the public comes on the heels of a banner year of climate denialism is no coincidence. We are at an inflection point, one that will likely determine the fate of our species. Green-haters have been winning the message war, the all-important battle of public opinion. If those of us who want to salvage and protect our earth don’t rise in righteous anger and use this moment to cement our case, then we have failed ourselves and future generations.

As one of those climate denialists Daou speaks of, I must admit that he’s being too kind. We’re not winning the war so much as the global warming alarmists are losing it with leaked emails that prove they haven’t been honest and:  with:  shady games with weather station data. Of course, when you keep insisting that the earth is getting warmer and it refuses to cooperate, you’re inevitably playing a losing game. That’s why the Left is so hot (ha, ha, ha, made a lame pun) to impose draconian legislation:  –:  because the more implausible their crazy eyed theory becomes, the harder it will be to hamper capitalism, create massive new taxes, and impose bigger government in the name of a nonexistent threat.

This isn’t Katrina II, it’s worse.

Well, : if you believe that, then : you should be really furious with the Obama:  Administration, which has done far less:  than:  the Bush administration did after Katrina. But, Obama’s a Democrat, Bush is a Republican, and everyone knows how the game is played at this point. Last excerpt coming up:

Words are a necessary precursor to deeds, anger is an essential ingredient for social change. Speaking up and speaking out is the difference between apathy and action. 30 years of conservative message dominance is a function of the right’s ability to master outrage. Now is the time for Democrats and progressives to muster (and master) the kind of outrage worthy of this calamity.

Hold on one second:  –:  : I:  can’t restrain laughter at his claim that Democrats just can’t get outraged enough. Heh, heh…okay….heh, heh. All right, I have it under control. Whew…that was pretty….snicker, heh, heh. Wow, it was good to get that out. Seriously? The party of Al Sharpton, Keith Olbermann, PETA, La Raza, Cair, the ACLU, and Jimmy Carter aren’t outraged enough? Here’s another thought: Maybe the Left is so continuously outraged, all the time, that people have just stopped paying attention?

If anything, maybe we should be paying attention to the Obama:  Administration’s incompetence at dealing with this oil spill that the mainstream media is desperately trying to avoid discussing. If it were the Bush:  Administration and BP had funneled all that money to Obama, you’d never hear the end of it. So, when does Obama apologize for his inept handling of this crisis? Maybe:  some:  : of the lapdogs in the press could act like men instead of dogs and ask him some time.
