Hypocrite In Chief On Immigration Issue: Let’s Not “Demagogue, Politicize”

Via The Hill:

In a CBS interview broadcast Sunday, President Obama slammed approaches to immigration reform he said “demagogue” a “national problem.”

He also defended progress in the administration’s suit against Arizona’s SB 1070 immigration law — an action that states that the controversial measure flouts the federal government’s imperative under the ‘supremacy’ clause of the constitution.

SB 1070 in its full implementation would require police to verify the citizenship of individuals they encouter if they have a “reasonable suspicion” that one is an illegal immigrant. It would also make it a crime for illegal immigrants to seek work in the state.

Arizona governor Jan Brewer (R) responded last Thursday to a recent injunction against portions of SB 1070 by filing an expedited appeal to the Ninth Circuit. The Supreme Court may ultimately resolve the case.

Speaking with “Early Show” anchor Harry Smith, Obama criticized what he sees as political opportunism in Arizona’s approach.

“What we can’t do is allow a patchwork of 50 different states, or cities or localities, where anybody wants to make a name for themselves suddenly says, ‘I’m going to be anti-immigrant, and I’m going to try to see if I can solve the problem ourself.'”

“Anti-immigrant”? This shameless demagogue still can’t get his facts straight on the issue. It’s not that Brewer is “anti-immigrant”; she’s anti-ILLEGAL immigrant, and she’s got valid reasons to be that way.

Not only that, but who the heck does he think he is trying to hold the moral high ground on demagoguery when his administration has been demagoguing this issue since the bill was passed? Starting with him, back in April:

OTTUMWA, IA – Asked about his plan for undocumented workers at a town hall this evening in Ottumwa, IA, President Obama referred to “this law that just passed in Arizona which I think is a poorly conceived law.”

The president said, “you can try to make it really tough on people who look like they, quote, unquote look like illegal immigrants. One of the things that the law says is that local officials are allow to ask somebody who they have a suspicion might be an illegal immigrant for their papers – but you can imagine if you are a Hispanic American in Arizona, your great, great grandparents may have been there before Arizona was even a state. But now suddenly if you don’t have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, you’re going to be harassed, that’s something that could potentially happen.

“That’s not the right way to go,” the president said to the crowd at Indian Hills Community College.

Simply.not.true.

The fact of the matter is that, contra to our President’s attempt at rewriting history, it has been his party who have shamelessly demagogued this issue with their insinuations or outright accusations that the AZ law is a “racist” law, and for what reason are they doing this? For political gain, to “make names for themselves” – to try and win Hispanic votes. Yet this chronic liar can assert with a straight face that it’s the other way around, when all evidence points to the contrary?

Chutzpah.
