Is Obama Deliberately Trying To Sabotage Our Own War In Afghanistan? It Sure Looks Like It.
Barack Obama’s entire presidency has been characterized by bumbling and amateurishness. This is an inexperienced President who doesn’t know how to govern and either doesn’t have advisers capable of explaining how things work to him or he doesn’t listen to those advisers.
This has been particularly noticeable in foreign affairs where his bowing and bungling have created issues in Britain, Russia, Israel, Poland, and Honduras among other places.
The place where Obama’s inexperience and arrogance has the potential to create the most dangerous problem, however, is in Pakistan.
Here’s a statement that will seem puzzling to some people who don’t understand foreign policy (like liberals). It’s an exchange from the 2008 campaign involving John McCain, who’s several orders of magnitude more aggressive about the war on terror than Barack Obama.
In July 2008, Larry King asked Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), “If you were president and knew that bin Laden was in Pakistan, you know where, would you have U.S. forces go in after him?”
McCain said he would not.
“Larry, I’m not going to go there and here’s why: because Pakistan is a sovereign nation.”
Since Bin Laden was killed, liberals have been trotting this out as evidence that McCain would have never gone after Bin Laden in Pakistan. That just proves, like our President, that they are toweringly ignorant.
You see, smart people don’t brag to the world that they’re running wild in an ally’s country, blowing things up left and right without its permission. Instead, smart people, as opposed to Barack Obama, come to a private agreement about that sort of activity, in order to avoid embarrassment for the host country. That’s what we did during the Bush years — and let’s face it, all Obama did to get Bin Laden was to continue and expand the programs Bush had already put in place.
What the Obama administration has been doing is EXTREMELY problematic for the Pakistani government. Keep in mind that much of its populace is anti-American, the government doesn’t have full control over its own country, and its hold on power is not firm. Moreover, the people of Pakistan, like people almost everywhere, don’t like foreigners rampaging around their country blowing things up.
In other words, it’s entirely possible that the Obama Administration’s incessant leaking and bragging will put the Pakistani government in a position where it has no other choice but to kick us out of its country or risk losing its hold on power. This, in and of itself, would be very dangerous. Pakistan is an unstable country with ties to extremism and a small arsenal of nuclear weapons. However, getting beyond that, it would also….and here’s the key…mean an end to the war in Afghanistan. If Pakistan won’t allow us to be based there, then our war’s over.
This is what it appears that Obama is angling for because then, he could say, “We have to abandon Afghanistan. I don’t want to do it, but without Pakistan, we can’t continue.” Note that the way he spun the killing of Bin Laden plays into this, too. Now we’ve got Congress smacking Pakistan around and talking about cutting off its funds. If we cut off the funds to Pakistan, Pakistan is not going to allow us to base our troops there and again, the war in Afghanistan is over.
Some people might call this savvy politics or be happy because they don’t want to be in Afghanistan anymore. But, if Barack Obama wants to pull out of Afghanistan, then he needs to have the guts to make that move and take the consequences. Trying to deliberately goad Pakistan into tossing us out on our ear, thereby handing a huge victory to Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan is treacherous and despicable. Yet, that’s exactly what Barack Obama appears to be trying to do.
