The special grand jury met Wednesday at the federal courthouse in Montgomery. King’s chief of staff, Chris Bence, emerged from the grand jury room shortly before 4 p.m. with his attorney, Joe Espy. Bence confirmed his appearance before the panel.
Unfortunately, as both Stacy McCain and I discovered va Google, a rather ugly scandal involving ...

I know folks in the McKenna camp. He’s a rather establishment fella, but not bad and would be much more acceptable than Dillard.
While I appreciate some emotional support for Andrzejewski, perhaps due to a Lech Walesa endorsement, the problem is, Andrzejewski is bringing up the rear in a five candidate race. And it’s likely ...

Various sides have their plans, but that’s part of the problem. Also, Olympia Snowe is signaling she’s not interested in rejoining any negations. It’s sounding as though any efforts to reach out to more liberal Republicans on the matter have so far failed to provide a workable path. Tick, tick, tick.

Coakley declined to be interviewed for Dorothy Rabinowitz’s recent damning article in the WSJ dealing with Amirault.
That’s when I stumbled upon an extensive cached Boston Globe article from 1999. While perhaps a glowing portrait of Coakley at the time, in hindsight, it details how Amirault was not ...

I realize the Club for Growth has no love for Senator Bennett in Utah, the problem is, they aren’t in Utah, don’t know likely alternative, AG Mark Shurtleff the way they know Pat Toomey – and once one digs into the details surrounding Shurtleff and his campaign, a genuinely troubling image for conservatives begins to emerge.
First, it appears that Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff may well be violating FEC regulations, while failing to attract the kind of broad support he would need in the Fall if he manages to knock off Bennett in a ...

Why is the Obama administration destined to fail and be thrown out in four years? This is why and it has nothing to do with race. And when one stops to think about the situation we find ourselves in, it becomes even more troubling.
A new Gallup poll shows that the number of people who believe government has its hand in too many areas of American life has reached its highest point in more than a decade.
The question asked by Gallup was, “Some people think the government is trying to do ...

It’s not hard to understand why this news is coming out late afternoon on a Friday. Unemployment 10 percent or above in 14 states and DC. Twenty-seven states see unemployment rise. I’m sure glad the recession is over and the stimulus is working great just as Obama has said.
WASHINGTON (AP) – Forty-two states lost jobs last month, up from 29 in July, with the biggest net payroll cuts coming in Texas, Michigan, Georgia and Ohio.
The Labor Department also reported Friday that 27 states saw their unemployment rates increase in August, ...

This is a far more troubling item than it first appears to be. And it doesn’t look good from the start. The first thing Boehner does is mention that Independents out number the base in their concerns over Obama. That’s a bit of a tell as to which way he is leaning. But the second issue is far worse.
While I’ve no problem with his staying clear of some of the truly fringe stuff like the doomed birther movement, that he can’t appreciate creeping socialism is rather troubling, indeed. And he seems ...

Friend and RedState editor Eric Erickson offers some pretty biting criticism of Utah Senator Bob Bennett and the Healthy Americans Act (HAA) given word that Bennett may be at the WH tonight. Having some familiarity with the issue and a friend close to the Bennett camp, I reached out to try and determine what the deal is if I could. While appreciating Eric’s view, I’d like to respectfully flesh out at least some facts regarding the plan.
Bob Bennett is about to screw America.
Bob Bennett is a fiscally irresponsible Senator who prides himself on being a Senator’s ...

But what good is a conference call without some well known, high flying Democrat turned Republican consultant who knows so much about the issues. Sounds good to me!
The problem is, I recently interviewed Rep. Joe Wilson and also made this post: I Am Joe Wilson. Oh, and I also found time to note this item, as well:

Dodd’s campaign manager, Jay Howser, said that the tea-baggers have nothing to offer.
“The great thing about the far right wing, extreme group of tea-baggers who have entertained us throughout the summer is that their idea of free speech is akin to shouting down opposition, drowning out debate, and in Connecticut, encouraging Sen. Dodd to commit suicide with painkillers and alcohol,” Howser said. “No responsible American, ...

Today in the blogosphere much is being made of anything approaching a precise count of the hundreds of thousands of, if not a million Americans who turned up in Washington, DC on Saturday, September 12th to send their government a message. Yet, it’s clear from the coverage of as notable an event as the inauguration of America’s first black president that no genuinely precise number can, or will ever be established, let alone agreed upon.
It’s expected that bloggers, Left and Right, will argue over such things; it’s what we do. But that ...
