Apparently Chuck Schumer is not polling all that well in New York. And, hey, it’s a Scott Brown kind of year. So who knows?
Here’s Republican Jay Townsend’s announcement speech:
“The ruling elite in Washington believe they know better than you how to spend your money, how to raise your family, how to grow your business, how to manage your budget, how to protect your home, how to determine your health care.
“One person, more than any other, stands as a stark symbol of what is wrong with Washington. Chuck Schumer is considered ...

It was brought to my attention that Karl Rove offered some criticism of me on this site. What he said was rather harmless — though inaccurate. If you’ll forgive the shameless plug, the real story is in my book, SPEECH*LESS: Tales of a White House Survivor. I also offered some comments here:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-03-09/the-rove-you-dont-know/
The only thing that I really want to clear up is that I never, ever worked at the State Department, as Karl says, but at the Department of Defense. Quite a difference.
Although Rove thinks my criticisms of him are personal, they ...

Governor Palin currently leads most polls as the top choice of conservatives for the GOP nomination. Though the media and even fellow conservatives are counting her out, stranger things have happened. I mean, who for example believed Barack Obama could win a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing? I hope Hillary Clinton is working on her speech for next year’s prize, actual achievements to be named later.
My column is linked below. Would welcome any thoughts.

Today the New York Post noted that President Obama did not use the word “win” or “victory” in his rather dull Afghanistan speech.

I also didn’t like the fact that he used the troops as props. Then, of course, when they didn’t applaud enough people like Chris Matthews called West Point “the enemy camp” (as I recently pointed out on MSNBC, which ticked them off.)

Some Right and Wrong Lessons from last night — any others?
Right Lesson: The voters turned away from the Obama administration and its handling of the economy.
Wrong Lesson: The candidates won because they “soft pedaled” their conservatism, as National Review and others in the MSM alleged.
Right Lesson: DeDe Scozzafava was a disastrous candidate for the Republican Party and proved it by endorsing the Democrat in the race.
Wrong Lesson: Conservatives were the troublemakers in the race and cost “us” the seat. They should have left this to the GOP elites to handle. (In ...

Well, not quite. Let’s remember that even if Doug Hoffman wins the NY-23 race it will be DESPITE the Republican Party, not because of them.
The GOP elites really should be apologizing to conservatives who forced them to do the right thing. And how about getting DeDe Scozzafava, who endorsed the Democrat in the race after she withdrew, to pay back the hundreds of thousands of dollars her campaign was given by Republicans that she duped?

In Human Events today, I talk about the effort by conservatives to back Doug Hoffman over the liberal backed by the GOP establishment. And I wonder if this isn’t the beginning of something more important — a fight not only within the GOP but AGAINST the GOP and its current leadership. There is precedent for conservatives to turn against a party that lost its way and vote it out of power (even out of existence). More on “The Canada option” below.

In case conservatives have missed it, our betters running the Republican Party think they’ve figured out the way to a Republican resurgence. They want to hide conservatives in an attic somewhere (surprise, surprise).
Even National Review (!) has gotten into this act, advising Republicans that the way to win is to learn from Virginia’s Bob McDonnell, currently favored in the race for governor. McDonnell, the magazine notes favorably, has “run a decidedly nonideological campaign, tailoring his message to attract suburban moderates…” He is “softpedaling” his conservative beliefs.
