Christine O’Donnell Wins And The GOP Rages Against The Machine People
15 Sep 2010
5:04 am
When the GOP started attacking Christine O’Donnell fiercely a couple weeks back, I figured she must be up in the internal polling. In fact, I figured she’d win. And tonight, in a race that stunned nearly everyone but Christine O’Donnell and her very motivated followers, she did just that.
What I wasn’t sure about, was how Mike Castle and the GOP would respond. Well, now we know. The NRSC, off the record of course, said they won’t support Christine O’Donnell. That’s unsurprising. What’s intemperate and indicates that the Republican establishment types …

About That Rift
15 Sep 2010
12:52 am
Matt Lewis talks about the divide over the Delaware race:
The 2010 Republican primary elections have pleasantly provided us with many examples of conservative insurgents ousting establishment insiders.
But as I noted yesterday, Tuesday’s GOP primary in Delaware is different. It is the first time bona fide conservatives are sharply divided over whether to support the Tea Party candidate (Christine O’Donnell) over the establishment candidate (Rep. Mike Castle).
And:
Still, it is clear that O’Donnell’s candidacy has exposed a growing rift within conservatism that will need to be addressed at some point.
About that divide…

Sarah Palin Against Qu’ran Burning–Reflecting Conservative Distates With The Actions
8 Sep 2010
5:29 pm
Sarah Palin says on her Facebook page:
Book burning is antithetical to American ideals. People have a constitutional right to burn a Koran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation – much like building a mosque at Ground Zero.
I would hope that Pastor Terry Jones and his supporters will consider the ramifications of their planned book-burning event. It will feed the fire of caustic rhetoric and appear as nothing more than mean-spirited religious intolerance. Don’t feed that fire. If your ultimate point is to prove …

Republicans: 2010 Was The Year To Fight, Not Flee
7 Sep 2010
11:51 am
At the beginning of this primary season, way back a thousand years is what it feels like, I made a decision: Support every conservative in every race everywhere no matter what. Why? Because if there was ever a year where a conservative could get elected, it would be this year.
Some races weren’t so obvious. For example, the three primary candidates in Nevada looked okay, and I would have been happy with any of them, so I didn’t say much. No point in endorsing, or conversely, slamming, someone who might end …

California Dreamin’: Chasing The Mythical Green Jobs Beast
7 Sep 2010
12:45 am
California struggles these days. In some segments of their workforce, like agriculture, they’ve had nearly 40% unemployment. Part of the problem California faces is pie-in-the-sky environmental and tax burdens while simultaneously hoping businesses will stay in the hostile climate. Businesses are leaving. Why? Global Warming laws like AB 32 are making it hard to do business.
The answer to all problems environmental and economic according to Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama? Mythical green jobs.
Democrats say the words “green jobs” as though by some fiat, making products people don’t want and …

What Larry David Can Teach The Ground Zero Mosque Defenders: Many Things Are Legal, But Are They Right?
3 Sep 2010
4:16 pm
Mark Steyn is back from vacation, has subbed for Rush and was a guest on Hugh Hewitt’s show. On Hugh’s show Mark said this:
I mean, the fact is yes, obviously, Constitutionally speaking, legally speaking, if a guy wants to buy a building and put a particular project in it, he’s entitled to do that. This pompous twerp, Bloomberg, who I think has come to embody the particular stupidity of the American ruling class, because it’s a very parochial kind of stupidity. Presuming to lecture his knuckle-dragging, moronic constituents on how …

Because I Can’t Resist: On McConnell’s Leadership Assurance
2 Sep 2010
3:25 pm
Short answer: Whatever. Nothing is assured in this climate.
Long answer: I’ll get to it in a minute. First, Ace says this:
I’d bet on McConnell, but I wouldn’t bet much. FWIW, I think… I’m meh on him. I don’t dislike him, I don’t resent him, I understand the need for tactics and stuff, but I also don’t really find him much of a spokesman.
He doesn’t rev me up. I don’t think he revs anyone up. He sort of seems somnolent by genetic disposition and conscious choice. Whenever I have trouble sleeping …

Gulf Rig Bombing: I Blame The Media And Environmental Wackos
2 Sep 2010
12:32 pm
Darleen Glick over at one of my favorite websites Protein Wisdom writes this:
Now, what won’t you see from the MSM about James Jay Lee? You won’t see Katie Couric worrying about Lee’s possible ties to Moveon or SEIU or ACORN. You won’t see Frank Rich writing about how MSNBC and Leftwing Radio have produced so much fear and anxiety that Lee is their fault. You won’t see Time and Newsweek with cover stories about angry Social Enviros and the way they poison polite political discourse. You won’t see Chris Matthews …

Environmental Wack-o-Doodle James Lee Goes Gonzo In Maryland
1 Sep 2010
4:06 pm
But his gun wielding, hostage-taking crazy is most certainly NOT motivated by politics. He’s just, you know, crazy. Because crazy people do things when they’re on the left–they have good intentions, don’t you know, they just go a wee bit too far.
James Lee’s MySpace Account is titled WorldGuardian: love the world, hate people.
He was born June 1, 1967. He has a history of arrests at Discovery.
He follows the work of Enviro-crazy Daniel Quinn.
Here’s the account of an evacuee. There are more hostages currently.
UPDATED:
Michelle Malkin has the crazy man’s manifesto (Note …

Terrorist Trial Run Intercepted: Arrests Made
1 Sep 2010
4:46 am
Good grief. Once again, allowed on the plane:
Two men taken off a Chicago-to-Amsterdam United Airlines flight in the Netherlands have been charged by Dutch police with “preparation of a terrorist attack,” U.S. law enforcement officials tell ABC News.
U.S. officials said the two appeared to be travelling with what were termed “mock bombs” in their luggage. “This was almost certainly a dry run, a test,” said one senior law enforcement official.
A spokesman for the Dutch public prosecutor, Ernst Koelman, confirmed the two men were arrested this morning and said “the investigation …

Meanwhile, Back At The Newly Redesigned Oval Office, President Obama Acts Churlish
1 Sep 2010
1:14 am
Bleh. Andrew Malcolm has the text of the speech along with some interestingly placed photos–I do believe he’s learned picture placement art from Drudge.
My thoughts on the speech? Petty, small, graceless, and ultimately irrelevant. The American people know what’s up in Iraq. This speech wasn’t for them. It was for the Democrat base that needed to hear the words “a promise kept”. The speech was a bone to the lapdogs.
The American people also know that troops will never leave Iraq–just as they’re still in Korea, Japan, Germany and elsewhere. American …

It’s Joe Miller Time!
31 Aug 2010
5:30 am
Little Old Big arse Alaska once again takes the spot light. A national drama unfolds on the state level and all eyes watch. There is a subtext in the Murkowski verses Miller primary:
Incumbent versus Tea Party
Establishment versus grassroots
Palin versus D.C.
This race and the many other Republican Senatorial races mean so much all the way around. Tim Carney gets to the heart of it:
The Alaska result is above all a blow to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. As with the primary defeat of Utah’s Bob Bennett in the spring, challenger Joe …

Why True Conservatism And Libertarianism Are Natural Allies: Restoring Honor And Shrinking Government
30 Aug 2010
11:27 pm
Some libertarians watched the Beck rally with skepticism and more than a little loathing. The God thing is just too much. Reason’s Nick Gillespies’ bemused reporting from the Mall made me smile.
Libertarians have looked for small government and fiscally responsible candidates, and they seem alarmed that many of the folks who preach this religion also preach Jesus. It doesn’t seem so weird to me.
Conservative Christians, going back to the Puritans, believed and lived a brisk dose of self-reliance. That is, when you rely on yourself, you don’t have to steal …

When The Left Is Watched: Racism!
30 Aug 2010
10:34 pm
Organizing for America, ACORN and whatever new name and incarnation of these Democrat groups may be blame Republicans for the recent fire burning down the building with voting machines in Houston, Texas. Of course, the accusation is patently false.
What is more interesting to me is this reported by Brad Jackson:
Smith didn’t stop with his accusations at just voter suppression, he also claimed that the Right, specifically True the Vote, is racist. As is standard Democrat practice these days, whenever you disagree with them, or work against a policy or political …

Sarah Palin’s Alaska: Pay Attention Grassroots, The Establishment Sure Is
27 Aug 2010
10:26 am
Alaska may well be another field of shattered, and at least shocked, establishment dreams. Or not. A poorly run Murkowski campaign headed by a dude Sarah Palin fired (he must be awesome, because she’s so stupid, we had to hire him!) because of his incompetence, now stares into the grass-roots abyss.
I expect them to act desperate.
Dan Riehl has more of the story and background (links above and below) and it’s all a must-read because Alaska is not so different than many other states: there are big good-old boy networks …

More Leftist Hate: Misogynist Edition
27 Aug 2010
10:04 am
Yawn. Liberal men hate women. Yawn again. One thing I realized early on in this business is that the supposed haters were not the conservative, white, middle-aged males. Those were my readers. Nope. The haters were hipster leftist men, and more shockingly, women, who had unresolved issues with their mommies.
Whatever, they do not like women and they don’t mind falling for stereotypically anti-feminist language to do it. Oh, the irony. These same people will turn right around and say they’re “pro-women” as long as she’s the right kind of woman–you …

A Round-Up Of News To Make Your Blood Boil
26 Aug 2010

Do you find it galling that after all this time being called “radical, violent, right-wing extremists”, we now have multiple examples in one day of psychotic liberals going cuckoo?
Yeah, so Russ Carnahan’s office was burned. Tea Partier? Nope! TPM blogger and Carnahan staffer.
The Department of Homeland Security, you know, the dudes are taking our civil liberties away to keep us safe..yeah them, released around 500 illegal aliens from terrorist nations. Trust them!
Attorney General Eric Holder is going after (terrorists? please, please, please say yes) pro-life protesters.

Cultural Suicide And Choosing To Live Again
25 Aug 2010
4:44 pm
The Anchoress writes a breathtaking piece and you absolutely must read the whole thing. I would like to focus on one small part.
On the one side suicide, on the other redemption:
As of April of this year, America’s own fertility rate has for the first time dipped to 2 children per female, suggesting that Americans, too, have lost sight of redemption. Drowning in guilt and content to be distracted, the iPad-ed and iPod-ed and singular West appears to be waving a white flag and settling in for the big sleep.

When Are Americans Going To Stop Acting Like Sheep?
25 Aug 2010
10:57 am
Does anyone like the airport screening process? Does anyone believe it makes a lick of security difference? Does the screening process save us?
No, it gets us this:
That same screener started emptying her wallet. “He was taking out the receipts and looking at them,” she said.
“I understand that TSA is tasked with strengthening national security but [it] surely does not need to know what I purchased at Kohl’s or Wal-Mart,” she wrote in her complaint, which she sent me last week.
She says she asked what he was looking for and he …
