Obama To Try Recess Appointment For Director Of Medicare/Medicaid, Making Him Damaged Goods
Written By : William Teach

Let me say upfront, I have little problem with recess appointments, as they are, in fact, Constitutional. However, ‘memba this?

“To some degree, he’s damaged goods,” said Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “I think that means we’ll have less credibility and, ironically, be less equipped to reform the United Nations in the way that it needs to be reformed.”

That was Barry speaking about John Bolton. So, I supposed this makes any recess appointment by PeBO damaged goods

President Obama will bypass Congress and appoint Dr. Donald M. Berwick, a health policy expert, to run Medicare and Medicaid, the White House said Tuesday.

Dan Pfeiffer, the White House communications director, said the “recess appointment” was needed to carry out the new health care law. The law calls for huge changes in the two programs, which together insure nearly one-third of all Americans.

Mr. Pfeiffer said the president would appoint Dr. Berwick on Wednesday. Mr. Obama decided to act because “many Republicans in Congress have made it clear in recent weeks that they were going to stall the nomination as long as they could, solely to score political points,” Mr. Pfeiffer said.

Oh, those mean Republicans! Good thing the NY Times sets the record straight about what the GOP thinks of Berwick, who is a proponent of the British health care system, ie, rationing. Oh, and wants to destroy the American medical system. This is the closest the Fish Wrap comes

Senator Pat Roberts, Republican of Kansas, said that, far from trying to delay a confirmation hearing, Republicans had wanted a forum where Dr. Berwick could explain his views.

“This recess appointment proves the Obama administration did not have the support of a majority of Democrats and Republicans in the Senate and sought to evade a hearing,” Mr. Roberts said.

Remember, transparency in Obama’s world is a talking point, not a verb.

Yet another example where his own “principles” do not apply to him. If it was wrong for Bush, it's wrong for Obama. Something doesn't suddenly become OK just because you have a (D) after your name. Unless you're a Democrat.

  • UFKA_Smithwick

I eagerly await the thrashing his hypocrisy will earn him in our unbiased media.

    (crickets)

    Um . . . guys?

  • RBC217

Sen Obama was talking about John Bolton, who was definately damaged goods for all sort so reasons, one of which was that Bolton was an avowed opponent of much of what the UN does, including, for example, the World Health organization.

Berwick, by comparison, is a supporter of what Medicare and Medicaid do, and wants to improve on their operations. In addition, Berwick is a widely recognized expert in health care policy and management. Bolton was a pariah in the diplomatic community.

The analogy does not stand up.

Which is not to say that Republican Senators should not have the opportunity to use a Berwick confirmation hearing to bring continuing concerns about the health care legislation out in the open – they should. But to say that Obama should put someone less competent in one of the most important health care policy and management jobs is plain stupid.

    • Mr. EMT

Mmkay, and what is it medicare and medicaid do?
Add taxes to an already overtaxed work force in the private sector while under the guise of “so granny can get basic healthcare” redistribute wealth.
Yes RBC, your leader has once again appointed someone who will further his socialist policy.
Someone who is not interested on making sure that impoverished receive healthcare, while making sure that an overburdened private sector do not fall further into poverty.

It doesnt bother you a single bit that your dear leader who promised to bring change and hope and happy unicorns with rainbows to pay your bills… is dividing this country and waging WAR on its citizens does it?

      • whats_up

Obama isnt declaring war on its citizens, thats Republicans and conservatives. They dont want to help the unemployed, they have no desire to help those who dont have health insurance. They want to protect big corporations who are raping the general public.

More lies, more lies, and more lies.

          Take a breath, crthns!

          • whats_up

More truth, more truth and more truth

            Open up your eyes, Stanley!

          • TheDickNixon

            Got Nixon's proof yet bitch?

          • StanW

            Piss off, crthns.

          • Mr. EMT

            YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!

            Epic

        • Mr. EMT

Tell me how over taxing business's and forcing them to downsize is helping unemployment moron?
Tell me how not paying medicare claims is helping the uninsured? How is it helping to not overhaul insurance and leave health care alone?
You morons attacked doctors, nurses and the entire health care industry while saying it is insurance you have an issue with.
You haven't touched insurance companies. On the contrary your dear leaders mandate and make laws requiring people to deal with insurance companies when people would be better off dealing directly with hospitals and doctors with out a middle man.
And the latest decleration of war? Obamao is SUING a state for enforcing laws that obamao himself says can not be enforced.
Who gets punished? The citizens of the state for DARING to enforce laws obamao admits he is totally incapable of enforcing himself.
But he certainly can give a pass to local governments who aid and abet criminals.

Your logic is so side saddled you have NO excuses left except that obamao is deliberately declaring war on the citizens of the United States of America and the Constitution.
And let me tell you something jackass. When someone who is not even a citizen crosses the border of this SOVEREIGN nation, is armed and commits crimes on our citizens, that is an act of war. When that person's government stands behind their right to do so, that is a government declaring war. When our own government allows them to commit war uncontested, that is an act of treason.

    • the_hawk

“…John Bolton, who was definately damaged goods for all sort so reasons, one of which was that Bolton was an avowed opponent of much of what the UN does”…

RB, you say that as if it was a bad thing.

    • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

It's just one analogy, RBC. Obama was on record as opposing other Bush recess appointments. But, seems that they are just fine when he does it.

      • RBC217

Yes, and Democratic Senators forced Bush into some recess appointments. That's hardly the point. My point is that Bolton was a bad choice for ambassador to the UN and Berwick seems like a good appointment to manage Medicare and Medicaid

        • http://conservativebootcamp.com Martin Hale

Yep, he's a good choice if you happen to believe that a centrally controlled health care delivery and payment system which eliminates many patient choices and engages in rationing based on patient's ages, locales and disease profiles is a good thing.

I don't, but that's mostly because I've worked around both health care delivery and health insurance environments for close to 40 years.

But if you do, there are a number of countries in the world which offer programmes meeting my description to their citizens. Be my guest. But be forewarned – they often send their sickest patients here for treatments, so you could possibly end up back in the evil ol' US.

        • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

IMO, Bolton was an excellent choice, and Berwick is a poor one. However, my main point was that recess appointments were bad. Per Obama, when Bush was president. Now they seem to be just fine with PeBO.

BTW, I do not agree with some of the carping from some republicans, like McConnell, about PeBO Using a recess appointment, at least the way they are carping about it.

    • earlgrey133

Medicare and Medicaid are the most wasteful health programs out there. Medicare also denies more claims than all other leading health insurance companies.

      • Mr. EMT

Which is why doctors and pharmacies are refusing to accept new medicare accounts.

    • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

Shut up hoggo, nobody cares what you think.

  • jharp

    Let me get this straight.

    Bush. Recess appointments. OK.
    Obama. Recess appointments. Can't work.

    God you people are stupid.

    • RappinMc

      Bark Bark, Moonbat!

    • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

Didn't say they were bad. Just highlighted Obama's hypocrisy.

      Read much, jharp?

      • jharp

I didn't say that you said they were bad. Just highlighting your hypocrisy.

        Read much, dumbass?

        • Mr. EMT

Only a commie libtard would try to claim that pointing out someone's hypocrisy is an act of hypocrisy.
Therefor by your logic jharp, you are a hypocrite.

        • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

          Bark, bark, moonbat!

        • belacuse

I feel stupider for having read your poor attempt at 'logic.' And calling Teach “dumbass” after your fantastic display of unintentional self-mockery adds just the right amount of irony to your ridiculous post.

      • earlgrey133

This is what he said in the very first line of his post.

Let me say upfront, I have little problem with recess appointments, as they are, in fact, Constitutional. However, 'memba this?

Now you are pointing out his “hypocrisy”. You already in pretty deep, I'd suggest you stop digging and find somewhere else to share your wisdom, but if you want to keep making your self look bad than please keep it up.

      • earlgrey133

Sorry William, I meant to reply to jharp. Not you.

      • whats_up

Well lets look at Conservative hypocricy William. Under Bush you had no problem with recess appoitments but yet now you have a problem, please spare us your whinning.

        • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

Please try reading the beginning of the post, what's_up

          • StanW

Save your breath, William. Crthns has been asked a direct question. Therefore, he ran away. He'll post some snarky reply in a few hours when he thinks we are all off-line.

    • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

      Try again retard!

      Obama's OPINION:

Bolton's appointment BAD – because it was made by Bush
Berwick's appointment GOOD – because it was made by ME

      Rank hypocrisy

      • whats_up

        Take your own advice retard!

        Conservatives OPINION:

Bolton's appointment GOOD – because it was made by Bush
Berwick's appointment BAD – because it was made by Obama

        Rank hypocrisy

        • Mr. EMT

Considering about the only things good that obamao has done were things Bush did, and anything else he has done different has been totally toxic.
          I'll go with that.
Hell I even challenged you morons to name one productive thing obamao has done, all you cold come up with was Bush policies.
Now if Obamao appointed Bolton and we bitched, then that would be hypocrisy…for the people that wanted Bolton then but not now.

    • earlgrey133

Ask your President about recess appointments. He said they were bad under Bush, but now he is doing it here and has done it before on other positions. If you want to call someone stupid for that, than fine — the President is stupid.

    • Mr. EMT

      Difference in apointments?
Bush: here is someone that is going to stand for American Independance and support the constitution
Obama: Im going to sneak this guy in because he will destroy american independance and help me destroy the constitution. And use the same methods to get him in that I criticized other people for using.

Guess what we have an issue over?
Think if he had chosen someone who stands for the constitution and is actually competent on what his job role would be, that we would have any issue?
Of course you do because you are ignorant and have no opinion of any value.

      • whats_up

So basically it comes down to If Conservatives do it its okay, if Liberals do it its bad. Typical Conservative bullshit.

        • StanW

Ahh, the hypocrite speaks again. You must enjoy displaying your stupidity for all, crthns.

OBAMA said recess appointments were bad when Bush did them. Now that he is President, recess appointments are OK. So it is Obama being the hypocrite, no one else.

          • whats_up

What utter tripe Stan, Conservatives said that recess appointments were good under Bush, but were bad when Obama did them. Typical Conservative hypocrisy.

          • StanW

Then show it to me, jerk-wad. Show me a Conservative that said one thing under Bush and anohter under Obama!

Here we have ONE MAN taking both sides of the issue. It is clear and blatent hypocrisy, crthns. And all of your little-girl whining and trying to divert the subject won't change that!

          • whats_up

            Stanley,

you had no problem with the Bolton appointment as I recall, you in fact celebrated. Yet you have a problem with this recess apointment, too easy, there you have ONE conservative, yourself. Typical Stan hypocrisy.

          • StanW

I said PROVE it crthns. Prove I have a problem with this appointment, find where I said it was bad.

And while you are at it, find where I said that the Bolton Appointment was good.

You are a pathetic liar, crthns. You try to indict the entire Conservative movement on the words of a few. This is about OBAMA ONLY. He took one position when Bush was President and the opposite position when he was President. THAT is textbook hypocrisy!

          • whats_up

Stanley you only asked for ONE conservative, if you didnt want to indict an entire movement based on the words of a few dont ask the question. This is about CONSERVATIVES ONLY. They took one positioin when Bush was President and the opposite position when Obama was President. THAT is textbook hypocrisy!

          • StanW

OK, so you can't prove I said ANYTHING abotu this appointment. Your admission that you are a liar is accepted.

Now a lesson in hypocrisy, crthns.

If person 1 says something and person 2 says the opposite, there is no hypocrisy.

But if person 1 says both something AND the opposite, then person 1 is a hypocrite.

Obama is the hypocrite here, no one else!

          • whats_up

Republicans and Conservatives are teh hypocrites here Stanley, no one else.

          • StanW

So you are saying that Obama is consistent in what he thinks about recess appointments?

          • whats_up

So you are saying that Conservatives are consistent in what they think about recess appointments?

          • StanW

            I asked you a question, coward…

            ANSWER IT!

          • whats_up

I asked you a question coward… ANSWER IT!

          • TheDickNixon

            Got Nixon's proof yet, pedophile?

          • StanW

I knew you were too much of a punk ass bitch to answer me.

          • TheDickNixon

            Got Nixon's proof yet?

  • the_hawk

And don't forget the Democrats reasoning then…they opposed recess appointments because they insisted that a nominee have an up or down vote. I guess that's not so important now.

  • baoxian

Gee what do you know, another liberal community activist that's spent his entire life in academia crying out for the government to crush the individual with the hammer of socialism.

Of course Obama didn't want this commie scumbag anywhere near a camera. Probably needs more time to clean up his tax cheating as well. Probably also didn't want anybody to catch him salivating at the opportunity to finally wield the power of government death panels against American citizens.

  • Christopher_Taylor

Reading the comments by leftists on this post makes my head hurt. Is it possible to be that clueless and incapable of reading plain English? How can they even type if they are that totally idiotic?
