What Did I Tell You? Here’s Proof That Obama LOVES The Birther Story

Had Barack Obama actually wanted to nip birtherism in the bud, he could have released his long version birth certificate back in 2008. That would have certainly done it back then, when the conspiracy hadn’t really gained traction. What I’ve been saying is that Obama liked having Republicans talking about whether he was born in America. It made the GOP look bad to Independents, it got Republicans sniping at each other, and moreover, it kept Republicans wasting their time on a dry hole instead of hammering Barack Obama on his horrible performance as President. — John Hawkins, April 28, 2011[1]

Yesterday from ABC News[2].

President Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign today started selling “Made in the USA” t-shirts featuring images of both President Obama and the long-form birth certificate he released copies of last month.

“Wear your support for this campaign with an official Made in the USA T-shirt,” his website advertises. Donate $25 or more today and we’ll send you your limited-edition shirt.

Coffee-mugs are also available.

…Selling products featuring the long-form birth certificate might be a risk for the campaign, given how seriously the president and many of his top aides have objected to the birther lie, some suggesting that it is in no small part a racist way to make the president seem “other.” Merchandise featuring the birth certificate could be seen as trivializing those concerns, or even crassly exploiting them to raise campaign cash.

…In April President Obama decried the “sideshows and carnival barkers” when finally releasing his long-form copy of his birth certificate. Some White House advisers told the president not to dignify the sideshows and carnival barkers, but White House aides say two weeks ago President Obama was dismayed when in the midst of his squaring off against House Republicans over budget priorities many in the media chose instead to focus on the false charges Trump leveled about the president’s birth certificate.

It just like I said, folks.

Barack Obama wasn’t really angry about the birther issue, he doesn’t see it as racist, and it’s clear that he enjoyed having the “sideshows and carnival barkers” making as much noise as possible about his birth certificate. The more people are talking about where Obama’s born, the more he thinks it helps him. Why else would he be putting out campaign merchandise that mocks the birthers?

From Obama’s perspective, it’s all upside. It makes more money for his reelection effort, his supporters get to wear a t-shirt that makes fun of people who believe in a laughable theory, and Obama obviously believes independents will laugh right along with them.

Encouraging this sort of nonsense may be divisive and unethical, but it makes for diabolical political strategy.
