BLACKLIVESMATTER Preparing To RESIST During Trump Era – Switching Their Tactics

Core members within the Black Lives Matter movement have decided that it is no longer effective to protest in the streets as a way of bringing about change. Under the Trump administration, they’ve decided that it’s time to switch tactics.

Instead of rioting and protesting, BLM will now put the focus on policy changes that will help them thrive under a Republican President.

One of the co-founders of the organization, Alicia Garza, spoke with the Washington Post and outlined the new way of doing things:

“What people are seeing is that there are less demonstrations. A lot of that is that people are channeling their energy into organizing locally, recognizing that in Trump’s America, our communities are under direct attack.”

And Garza isn’t the only activist who things the change is badly needed. DeRay Mckesson – who live-Tweeted the Ferguson riots – expanded on the shift:

“We will have to have a variety of strategies if we are going to achieve substantive change. Systems and structures change people’s behavior. Neighbors change people’s minds. In moving forward, we have to continue to be mindful to work along both lines.”

Is it possible that they’ve finally learned that burning down businesses and blocking highways isn’t the way to win over the hearts and minds of Americans?

In Right Wing News owner John Hawkins’ new book, 101 Things All Young Adults Should Know, he explains that you can find out what people truly believe by watching their actions. Maybe BLM has had a true change of heart and has gone from throwing destructive temper tantrums to actually wanting to make a difference in their own communities. I can’t say I would hold them in contempt if they made a concerted effort to shift the way they interact with people. In fact, I could even get behind a movement that is peaceful.
