Looks like you found at least 2 left of center bloggers in your “right of center” blogs.

I find the answers to questions 7 & 8, when taken together, to be extremely interesting and revealing. It seems that most of the respondents think that whether someone makes our country a better or worse place to live has absolutely nothing to do with how they behave and what they do while in our country, and rather everything to do with whether or not they have legal paperwork. I'd be curious to know what people consider to be the criteria for a better or worse place to live, and then explain how immigration status specifically affects that. Where I'm from (New Orleans), if you look at crime statistics and such, it's not the “illegals” who make our city a worse place to live, it's mostly natural-born citizens who do so. And when one looks at the contributions to our recovery and rebuilding following Katrina, no one can deny that New Orleans is a much better place to live because of the many “illegals” who have worked here. All of which seems to indicate to me that definite correlations between one's immigration status and the overall quality of another person's actual living environment are the product of irrational personal bias not the product of any kind of actual, rational quality of life measurement.

Maybe you haven't been following the news re: Arizona? Phoenix is the kidnapping capitol of the United States (just like Mexico City), a rancher was murdered, a Peace Officer was shot and drug runners are spilling through the border at an alarming rate.

Although, many illegal immigrants do respect local laws, all illegal immigrants ignore our immigration laws. Them doing so is a slap in the face to all of the many immigrants that have come in the front door and complied with immigration laws. That our politicians tolerate illegal immigration for political reasons (both Dems and Republicans), undermines our credibility in the world community and encourages more illegal immigration.

George Washington said we are a country of laws. It is our creation of a legal system that operates with little corruption (at least as compared to many Third World countries) that has helped us gain the respect of the world and has contributed to our success in creating the greatest country in the history of the world — a shining city on a hill, if you will.

We as Americans need to stand tall and be ethical. We must never abandon the ideals included in the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and our laws for the easy benefits realized by subverting those ideals.

Real Americans will never take the easy way out when it comes to ethics, laws, and the freedoms we enjoy. Just ask one of our brave young solders whether the easy way is worth it. Ask a new legal immigrant and they will tell you the freedoms we enjoy which are protected by the constitution and our system of laws are scarce in the rest of the world and are worth whatever it takes to secure them.

Don't be so quick to give up that for which generations of Americans have fought and died. If a society that produces freedom for all was easy to obtain, immigrants from many countries throughout the world wouldn't recount stories of indescribable tyranny.

Don't be so willing to cheat or tolerate cheating to get the benefits of this society for which so many others have suffered. It cheapens the freedom we enjoy and is a step in the direction of a total erosion of our system of laws/fairness. It is a slippery slope such behavior creates.

Many have given much to ensure our freedoms. I think it's reasonable to expect our newest members fill out the paperwork and follow the rules required to become citizens.

I hope that answers your question and I hope you will be one of the many that refuses to take the easy way out. Based on recent polls, it looks as though about 70% of United States citizens feel this way. Join us!
