How to Deal With Gutter Sludge Like Wonkette: Starve the Beast

Sites like Wonkette are the overflowing Porta-Potties of the Left. The writers luxuriate in fetid puddles of their own waste, lusting after the next opportunity to belch forth their sewage into the blogosphere.

Wonkette‘s vile, dehumanizing mockery of Trig Palin on his third birthday is just the latest eruption of filth–far from the first and you can be damn sure it’s not the last. Why? Because Wonkette bloggers don’t just wallow in sludge, they traffic in it.

Wonkette intentionally hires despicable, soulless writers who relish the chance to call Trig Palin “retarded,” and it’s not just because they enjoy being a-holes (though of course, they do). It’s because their disgusting attacks on Sarah Palin and her family draw ire from the blogosphere, and with ire comes traffic.

Pageviews at Wonkette have dipped 24 percent in the last 30 days, according to information collected by Alexa:

The percentage of global Internet users who visited Wonkette during the same period was down 30 percent:

Here’s a graph representing Wonkette‘s traffic rank over the last three months, courtesy of Alexa:

That spike in February coincides with … wait for it … another attack on Sarah Palin written by Jack Stuef, the same blogger who gleefully mocked a toddler with Down syndrome. That’s what Wonkette does when numbers are down.

Hit pieces on conservative women and their families don’t just hurt their targets–they keep sites like Wonkette in business. Remember the revolting Gawker post from an anonymous writer who claimed he had a one-night stand with Christine O’Donnell? That post was published on October 28, 2010, a date represented by the highest spike on this graph:

Not coincidentally, the NewsReal Blog post with the most pageviews this year bears the title “Top 10 Reasons to Hate Sarah Palin.” It’s a pro-Palin post, but the fake-out title drew over 260,000 more views than any other post at NRB this year.

Hatred of conservative women and their families sells, and each time we promote this trash, we’re lining the pockets of hate sites.

Stop linking to Wonkette and Gawker. Let their advertisers know how they’re attracting traffic. Stop allowing them capitalize on your anger and indignation.

It’s time to starve the beast.
