Stand Your Ground Against Gun Grabbers
Gun grabbers masquerading as crusaders for “sensible gun safety” are relentless in their efforts to undermine the Second Amendment. Since the gun control movement is losing steam, they are seeking ways to remain relevant.
Recently, former New York City mayor and notorious nanny statist Michael Bloomberg pledged $50 million to defeat the National Rifle Association (NRA) this November under a new organization called “Everytown for Gun Safety.” In an: April 15th interview with the New York Times, Bloomberg said he has a place in heaven for his efforts to disarm Americans:
“I am telling you if there is a God, when I get to heaven I’m not stopping to be interviewed. I am heading straight in. I have earned my place in heaven. It’s not even close.”
Moreover, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense is nothing more than a group vested in promoting defenseless victims.: The Blaze’s: Dana Loesch: confronted group founder Shannon Watts at NRA Annual Meetings in Indianapolis this past weekend: after Watts: slandered her as a “prop” of the evil “gun lobby.” Not surprisingly, Loesch was met with armed security guarding Watts and her posse. Gotta love leftist hypocrisy!
What’s even more telling about this latest gun control flop? Even former Pennsylvania governor and Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge defected from “Everytown for Gun Safety,” citing its efforts to disarm law-biding gun owners. Ridge told the: Daily Caller:
“When I signed on as an adviser to: Everytown, I looked forward to a thoughtful and provocative discussion about the toll gun violence takes on Americans,”: Mr. Ridge: said. “After consultation with: Everytown, I have decided that I am uncomfortable with their expected electoral work.”
First, arm yourselves with facts. We can’t allow the Left to speak for gun safety and knowledge. As I wrote in my: January 2013 Counter Cultured article, it’s important to debunk what an “assault weapon” is:
The term “assault weapon” is a pejorative phrase used by the anti-gun lobby to undermine the Second Amendment.
In: Stanford Law and Policy Review, Bruce H. Koboyashi and Joseph E. Olson: wrote, “Prior to 1989, the term “assault weapon” did not exist in the lexicon of firearms. It is a political term, developed by anti-gun publicists to expand the category of “assault rifles.”” (Read more about “assault weapons” at: The Truth About Assault Weapons.)
It’s imperative to: distinguish the difference between: so-called “assault weapons” and military-style rifles. Semiautomatic weapons, think AR-15’s, fire one round whenever the trigger is pulled. In contrast, fully automatic machine guns fire multiple rounds whenever the trigger is pulled. The Left gets up in arms about semiautomatic weapons with cosmetic features bearing similarities to fully automatic rifles, so we must articulate why these guns don’t pose a threat to our livelihood.
Second, we must use facts against gun grabbers, particularly studies, that show that more guns lead to less crime. A: Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy: report concluded that the presence of more guns leads to less crime. That same study also found that societies that disarmed their citizens—specifically the Soviet Union–witnessed more murder rates than gun-toting America. The study says:
Yet, manifest success in keeping its people disarmed did not prevent the Soviet Union from having far and away the highest murder rate in the developed world. In the 1960s and early 1970s, the gun-less Soviet Union’s murder rates paralleled or generally exceeded those of gun †ridden America. While American rates stabilized and then steeply however, Russian murder increased so drastically. That by the early 1990s the Russian rate Russian rate was three times higher than that of the United States. Between 1998-2004 (the latest figure available for Russia), murder rates were nearly four times higher than American rates.
Third, get involved with groups like the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and National Association for Gun Rights. The most effective way to combat the gun control crowd is to educate ourselves about gun usage for safety and recreation purposes.
Gun control policies disarm law-biding citizens, leave people (particularly children) helpless, and don’t prevent crime. If the Second Amendment is done away with, what will be next? Get involved and shoot back at the lies delegitimizing this civil right.
