ABC Issues Back-Peddling Statement About Cancelling “Last Man Standing” – ‘It Wasn’t Political’

When Tim Allen’s popular TV show Last Man Standing was slashed from the ABC lineup and all out cancelled, conservatives were up in arms – not literally, but still. Besides maybe Duck Dynasty, the Allen-led series was one of the only shows on television that really pushed towards and catered to the right when it came to the script and story of each episode. Of course, ABC didn’t claim that it had canceled the show because of its politics…but that would assume that the ratings were bad, which they weren’t. In fact, the show was performing excellently.

So, the question you should be asking ABC is, why? If a show was doing your network a favor with its ratings, why all of the sudden take it off the air?

According to ATT:

“Politics had absolutely nothing to do with it,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey told the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles.

“We have actors on our shows who have all sorts of political views. Tim Allen is a valuable part of the Disney family and has been for a very long time.”

She described “Last Man Standing” as a “high quality show” but added that the network had not been able to find room in the schedules for a seventh season.

A month before the cancellation Allen had spoken about Trump’s inauguration on late-night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” saying that he was “almost afraid” to say he had been at the event.

Whether this is the real reason or not, the show will not be making a comeback on the network anytime soon, but for those holding out for hope that some other network will pick them up, look no further than Netflix and CMT, who may be in talks of picking up the show where ABC dropped it.
