ROSIE to MELANIA: “I am TRULY SORRY”

The attacks on President-elect Donald Trump and his family are eerily similar to the vicious attacks that Sarah Palin endured. Rosie O’Donnell implied on Twitter that little Barron Trump, who is only 10 years-old, is autistic because of the way he was clapping and fidgeting during his dad winning the election. It was late, the little guy was extremely tired and the way he acted and moved in no way indicated autism. It was a downright mean swipe at the child of an incoming President. This all had to do with a video released on YouTube. Melania Trump retained counsel over it, who requested that the original poster of the video take it down from YouTube. He did. Melania also wanted an apology from Rosie O’Donnell over it and it looks like she just got it.

Rosie O’Donnell sent out a very apologetic tweet to Melania over the Barron issue and then turned her account to ‘private’. She must have gotten tremendous blow back on the whole affair. She says she didn’t mean to hurt Barron, but that is hard to believe given how stigmatizing autism is. O’Donnell’s daughter was just diagnosed with the condition. Whether Rosie was looking for attention, was just being mean or really did want to raise awareness doesn’t matter. It was in poor taste and came across as vindictive, petty and savage.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

The actress posted a tweet apologizing for a video she shared about Trump’s son Barron.

Rosie O’Donnell has apologized to Melania Trump for sharing a video speculating whether Trump’s son, Barron, may be autistic.

The actress, who has had public feuds with Donald Trump in the past, addressed the video in a tweet saying, “I apologize to @MELANIATRUMP – i was insensitive in my RT – i am sorry for the pain i caused – it was not my intent – i am truly sorry,” before setting her account to private.

The video that O’Donnell originally shared featured footage of 10-year-old Barron Trump from his father’s acceptance speech and campaign events and has been removed from YouTube by uploader James Hunter. “Barron Trump Autistic? if so – what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the AUTISM epidemic,” O’Donnell wrote in the since-deleted tweet with a link to the video.

Hunter also released a formal apology saying, “It was incredibly irresponsible of me to diagnose Barron Trump using a selection of misleading videos. I falsely correlated him trying to stay awake and occasionally doing quirky things, with him suffering from autism,” as reported by TMZ.

I think this is a case of O’Donnell taking her hatred of Donald Trump too far. Otherwise, why even go there with the child? This started long ago between the two of them. Name calling and fighting has gone back and forth and really heated up during the election. But it is beyond the pale to go after a child who is not at fault whatsoever because of his father. That used to be off-limits. It shows you just how far all of this crap has devolved.

Donald Trump won the presidency fair and square. Can’t you people just let the family take some happiness from that for a bit? Attack the man on his policies, on his words… hell on himself… but leave his family out of it. These idiots have also attacked Ivanka and her 8 month-old baby. Knock it off already! Get over it and get a life. Anyone who is this vicious is just scum and I mean that.
