Anti-Homosexual Hate Crime at UNC Was Yet Another Hoax
University of North Carolina freshman Quinn Matney made the news with claims that he was called a bad name and even burned with a piece of hot metal for being a homosexual. Like most outlandish hate crimes attributed to the enemies of political correctness, his story is fake:
A UNC-Chapel Hill freshman who told police he was attacked by a man who burned his hand and called him an anti-gay slur made a false report, the university says.
In a message just released to the campus community, Chancellor Holden Thorp says: “The Department of Public Safety has determined that the alleged aggravated assault reported to campus last night did not occur. That report, filed with campus police on April 5, was false. The University will not report it as a hate crime.”
Like the Tawana Brawley hoax, it might have been true, supposedly, except that it wasn’t.
“It is important to recognize that incidents of harassment do occur,” Thorp continued. “When they do, we take them seriously. We strive to foster a welcoming, inclusive and safe [quack quack quack…]”
Since the inventor of the incident claimed to be assaulted for being a member of a highly favored group, the case was to be brought all the way to the federal government, amid ominous promises of draconian punishment. But having been revealed as yet another hoaxer, Matney will sink into obscurity with Tawana Brawley, Crystal Gail Mangum, Kerri Dunn, Leah Miller, Trinity International University, Ahmad Saad Nasim, Floyd Elliot, Sarah Marshak, Safia Jilani, et al.
