We’re Here, We’re Queer and We’re in Abject Denial
Written By : Lori Ziganto

Originally posted at NewsReal:

Earlier this week, a group called Queers Against Israeli Apartheid boasted that the Pride Toronto organizers had voted to reverse a decision which would now let them march in the Gay Pride parade. They proudly touted it as a blow against censorship and then issued this statement:

“This is a victory for the Palestine solidarity movement, which has faced censorship and bullying tactics from the Israel lobby for far too long,” says Tim McCaskell, a member of Queers Against Israeli Apartheid. “The Israel lobby learned a tough lesson today about our community’s proud history of standing up to censorship and human rights abuses.”

Proud history of standing up to censorship and human rights abuses? Yeah, you know who actually does do that? Israel. Do you know who would want to punish you, by death, for being gay? Palestine.

Not only does this group try to equate Israel with apartheid, which is odious in and of itself, but they are either grossly intellectually dishonest or they are in abject denial. They are embracing a culture that goes against our very core principles as human beings. They are embracing a culture that considers women as chattel and non-human. They want to be “inclusive,” and defend a country that kills people—for being gay. They are marching to show pride so that gay people in the West don’t have to stay in the closet longer than desired. Yet, they are supporting Palestine, where they would need to stay in a steel-encased panic room, forever.

They are vilifying the one country in the Middle East that truly embraces diversity by believing in freedom: Israel.  The Judeo-Christian ethic has done the most good in the World. Always has and always will. The Judeo-Christian ideals of freedom and respect for the individual rights of men—and women, gay or straight, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist—all are welcome in Israel.

In Palestine? Not so much.

It’s not just Toronto. The Madrid Gay Pride parade banned a delegation from Tel Aviv from participating in their march. How tolerant! The banned Tel Aviv delegation had this to say:

Among other things, Tel Aviv had planned to take the Spanish organisers of the march to Gaza so they could witness a place “that is controlled by the fundamentalists of Hamas, who do not respect any human rights and believe that homosexuals should be killed,” Schwartz said.

“We invited the organisers of the gay pride event in Madrid to join a march this Friday in Tel Aviv, the only place in the Middle East where you can be gay in public,” he said.

“They would be able to talk to Arab gays who travel here secretly because they would be murdered at home if they revealed their sexuality.”

Israel. The only place in the Middle East where one can be gay in public, without fear of being jailed, tortured or killed. The useful idiots aligning with Palestine don’t even realize that Hamas, a terrorist organization intent on “wiping Israel off the map,” is also oppressing some of its own people, particularly women and homosexuals. But, see, this doesn’t matter to them. Hamas is anti-Israel and anti-America. This is all that matters. Because George Bush. And evil capitalist America. They are willing to turn a blind eye to true oppression and homophobia so rampant that it results in bloodshed and death, as long as it fits with their preferred global agenda.

Perhaps they should celebrate diversity by being, you know, honest. And by truly being open-minded, letting themselves out of their ideological closets.

This is the core of a problem that's always bothered me.

You would think that liberals would have nothing but contempt for Middle Eastern/Islamic culture, particularly in Saudi Arabia and Iran. The treatment of women in S.A. is a disgrace, and we know what Iran does with homosexuals. And yet they would rather rail against Israel and sneer at the United States.

    Very, very strange.

    • blkdragon

I agree. I spent years working at a liberal university, and got to hold the occasional “debate” concerning gay and womens rights issues with the average anti-Western Culture supporter of the anti-American underdog of the week college kid. I couldn't help walking away wishing there was a way to let them experience life in their supposed Utopian country without endangering the rest of us. (Or them for that matter.) Their adamant denial of reality as “Western Propaganda” always astounded me.

Maybe if they could actually live a year in Castro's Cuba, Hussein's Iraq, the old U.S.S.R., or Ahmadinajad's Iran they would not be so quick to jump to the support of the enemies of Western Civilization. That's assuming half of them managed to survive a year.

      • Mahatma

College is a time in life that one should be idealistic. One should reject the idea of living in Rush's Amerika. It is good for them to challenge the status quo. That is how society advances.

        • UFKA_Smithwick

Standing up for third-world theocracies is challenging the status quo?

I suppose technically yes it is, since we currently live in an enlightened democracy. So becoming a shariah hellhole would be a change. But it could hardly be considered an advancement for society. We went through that stage, hundreds of years ago, so that would be a regression.

          • Mahatma

we currently live in an enlightened democracy.

            Some of us do.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

Yep, those of us living in the west.

Not those living in non-western countries, like say Palestine.

        • mightysamurai

Thank you for demonstrating precisely the attitude that makes people less inclined to take college students seriously.

          • Mahatma

They say if you are young and aren't a liberal you don't have a heart. If I'm not mistaken you aren't too far beyond being a student, so you must not have a heart.

          • Mr. EMT

            You misquoted Errol FLynn:
You cant have a heart and not be a communist.
And you cant have a brain and not be a capitalist.

But yes today communism and liberalism is synonymous so I understand how you made such an error.

          • Mahatma

I wasn't quoting Errol Flynn, moron.

          • Mr. EMT

You shouldnt call someone a moron that has corrected you accurately.
You obviously did not know the origin of the quote you bastardized.
You do now and you know the context it was used in.

          • Mr. EMT

I doubt mahatma is a college student, or grad or anything other than a basement dwelling freeloader.

        • blkdragon

And here is another example of why the liberal mentality will eventually kill itself.

Yes, college is a time to be idealistic, but not so idealistic ones brains fall out.

        • TheDickNixon

“One should reject the idea of living in Rush's Amerika. “

You mean you oppose personal responsibility, hard work, sacrifice, and patriotism?

          Yep you are a liberal.

          • Mahatma

You mean being a drug addict?

          • Mediumheadboy

I thought you “progressives” were supposed to be all tolerant and understanding about such things. Oh wait, you're just a bunch of partisan fuckwits. My mistake.

          • Mahatma

You mean being a drug addict with oxycontin being the choice of the Rushbo?

          • Mr. EMT

God forbid people get addicted to pain killers, that have chronic pain problems huh?
Oh wait… do you want to know what the statistics are for people who are addicted to pain killers due to being treated for chronic pain is?

Your statements imply that people who impair themselves with drugs have no value to society. Yet obamao bragged about his drug use.
Question for you. Since no where can anyone find obama went into rehab for using cocaine, how do you think he quit the addiction that comes with cocaine?

        • Christopher_Taylor

The left is the dominant culture in the western world. You are the establishment. Rebel against it; turn right.

        • Mr. EMT

Gee… its like you said living under commie/socialism is retarding progress.
Guess you are taking a stand against obamao's policies then?

        • http://conservativebootcamp.com Martin Hale

College is a time in life that one should be idealistic.

I don't see anyone arguing that college kids shouldn't be idealistic. I see people expressing concerns about the nature of the ideals they're espousing. Except to those with simplistic minds who insist on reducing all arguments to their basest possible terms, there's a big difference.

One should reject the idea of living in Rush's Amerika.

Do you really want to defend the notion that our nation is so monolithic in its social, political and economic makeup that all points of view are covered in what you term “Rush's America”? If you do, then you've proved to us all once again how simplistic your worldview really is. It's all down to Us versus Them, right? But more interestingly, if you see America as this monolithic entity which can be summed up in the phrase “Rush's America”, then aren't you acknowledging that at least in your mind, an overwhelming majority of Americans don't subscribe to the so-called progressive agenda, and have to be rebelled against. Which would mean, then, that you are indeed just a relatively small, noisy group of malcontents and rabble-rousers eternally stuck in your adolescent emancipation drama fighting an invisible authority figure? If progressive-ism were as prevalent as you say it is, then wouldn't college kids be rebelling against the 'norm' of progressive-ism, not “Rush's America”?

BTW, when is the progressive left going to come up with some new material? Spelling America with a 'k' is so 1968. Tell us, progressive, do you use 'AmeriKKKa' in reference to Mr. Byrd? That's pretty tacky, too. Right up your alley. How stuck in the past are you? Do you still say “right on”, “far out”, and the like?

It is good for them to challenge the status quo. That is how society advances.

Democratic societies advance from the efforts of all of its ideological groups to negotiate shared change of the status quo, not just those from one ideological group. One ideological group attempting to take control of the future of a society, exert undue control over the society or repress the expressions of other ideological groups is a putsch, a coup, an uprising. Shame you didn't learn that in your own years at UCSD.

        • Mediumheadboy

Wow, that's some weapons-grade stupid there.

    • Trench_Raider

I talked about this a few weeks back and have done so in the past. The unconditional support tht leftists seems to have for Islam is only puzzliling on the surface. I believe the left supports Islam (which you are 100% correct is stating that by al right, given their stated views, they should hate) for three reasons:
-Reflex contranism. Most of us on the right have issues with Islam, so the leftist rush to defend it just because they can't be seen supporting the same things those evil Right Wingers do. Yes, that's pretty childish, but what else are leftists but children that never grew up?
-The left has this tendency ,almost to the point of being a fetish with them, of throwing their support to anyone they consider to the the under-dog. For some reason the left has decided that Islam is the victim in the centuries old struggle between that religion and the West, so they side with them. it does not matter how awful the folks they are supporting are, if they are a “poor put upon and opressed people” the left are going to support them. That's why the left routinely throw their lot in with thugs and terrorist states.
-Finally the left considers the West and it's culture to be a force for evil the world. To their minds, the West is little more than a bunch of “racist”, oppressive, homophobic, authoritarian, imperialist, patriarchal states that need to be taken down a notch to advance the cause of “social justice”. Islam has long been an enemy of the West and the left recognizes this. Seeing them as allies against what they consider to be a greater evil the left supports Islam as an ally against Western civilization without looking too closely at what the Muslims think and believe. It's a classic case of “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. In this case it's pretty foolish of them as some of core values that leftists claim to hold dear (ie women's rights, support for homosexuals. religous freedom, etc) are some of the reasons that Islam hates the West.

      • Trench_Raider

        Damn.
For some reason I'm having issues with editing posts. My sentence above should read:
“I believe the left supports Islam (which you are 100% correct in stating that by all rights, given their stated views, they should hate) for three reasons:

      • Mahatma

Finally the left considers the West and it's culture to be a force for evil the world.

That is an abjectly false statement.

        • UFKA_Smithwick

Compare the number of liberal protests against western entities with those they've had against non-western entities.

Burning american/isreali flags = wise, tolerant, enlightened.

Burning an iranian/north korean flag = racist, zenophobic, nationalist.

Yeah they pretty much never complain about the horrific conditions in non-western and non-white states.

          • Mahatma

I have never burned any countries flag. I am appalled at what has happened in sub-Saharan Africa. In Bosnia. Somalia. To the Jews. To the African Americans in the Deep South.

          • blkdragon

And yet you constantly defend the very religion that leads to such horrors, spout anti-American idiocy, and defend traitors that support Islam and anti-American dictators and regimes around the globe.

In this very discussion board your actions do not support you're stated belief.

          • Mahatma

I'd answer you but I think you're on LSD.

          • TheDickNixon

We are very sure you are a moron.
            Thanks for playing.

          • mightysamurai

The fact that you just had to throw in a slam against America kinda proves his point.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

Didn't you know? America invented slavery, racism, sexism, bigotry of all kinds in fact and is currently the most oppressive and least fair place on earth.

          • Mahatma

Just trying to be fair, sammy. Try it some time.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

Even assuming that is true one person doesn't define an entire ideology, does it?

Well, unless it is a single conservative saying something he shouldn't, in which case he perfectly represents the entire ideology.

Name the last time a leftwing protester burned a flag other than the US or Israeli flag.

Name the last leftwing protest against the treatment of homosexuals in the muslim world or the oppression of Africans by their own governments.

Yeah. The trend is definitely not in your favor here.

          • Mr. EMT

Gee, what they do appalls you huh?
Guess you don't support islamism then?
Out of curiosity, what is happening to black Americans in the deep south? And where is the deep south you are referencing? I haven't seen any news about any atrocities happening to black Americans in the deep south of anywhere lately.
Unless you are talking about black Christians in south africa?
Pretty horrendous stuff happens there but doesn't really get reported about in the news. And those are Arficans not Americans there.

        • TheDickNixon

          proof please

      • Mahatma

Islam and Christianity have long been enemies.

        • DrEvil

Water is wet. Fire is hot, and ice is cold. What's your point?

          Western Civilization is tolerant.

Islamic civilization is stuck in the 8th Century.

          Have an Evil day

        • TheDickNixon

Of course. islam is a pagan religion, a 7th century death cult if you will.

Christianity is based on the teaching and example of the Son of God.

          • Mahatma

Well that would be YOUR son of G-d.

          • Liberal_Troll

            WTF?????? you are a tard!

        • Christopher_Taylor

Absolutely; what you should be wondering is which one is right and true, if either one is.

        • Mr. EMT

Through the CENTURIES islam has represented a religious fascist regime that has murdered, tortured, and raped any who it has conquered. Including their own family members, because that is the path to honor.
Poor misunderstood islamofascists. We have to listen to leftists cry they deserve their rights, despite the atrocities they commit on innocents, which they always have done. The atrocities they commit today are only as new as sharia law.

Meantime the leftists sit there and cry Christians are hypocrits… why?
          Because of the crusades!
          LMAO!
No matter how many times they see videos of innocents being decapitated, read the news reports of their own people being executed for protesting for freedom, read the headlines of family members dying from “honor killing” or hear about christians they have raped and murdered. Leftists sympathize with islamists and wonder why conservatives who are educated on what is happening look at them with disdain and call them traitor.

I was at the parade last year with a bi friend who had no one to go with. I'll give some credit to people as the cheering dropped off considerably when these clueless morons marched by.

  • UFKA_Smithwick

You know how you can really show your solidarity?

Go to palestine and have your gay pride/jew-hate rally there.

Be sure to wave rainbow flags and dress as flamboyantly as possible so they know that the gay population is on their side.

They will welcome you with open bombs. . . er arms.

    • gfchicago

Yeah and they'll let them have it like a Folsum street parade in San Fran, replete with people preforming all kinds of public sex.

      /sarc

  • billdalasio

While I know I'm going to be flamed for noting this, but Islamism, as a political ideology, as opposed to Islam, as a religion, does not have its roots entirely in the Muslim world. Modern Islamism is a branch of political ideology following from Qutbism. But Qutbism had, as its basis, the fusion of European socialist ideology with traditional Muslim religious belief. Consequently, its hardly surprising the left doesn't have too much of a problem with it. It is their bastard child.
