AGW Causes Mental Illness, Or Something
Written By : William Teach

The latest OMG WE’RE ALL IN DEEP DOO DOO BECAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING! EVERYBODY PANIC! story

The negative impact on mental health worldwide may be one of the most severe effects of climate change, with children at greatest risk, according to experts.

Of course. Think of the children.

As climate change causes extreme weather events, drought, financial strain and changes in work and migration patterns, people will be at increasing risk from mental health issues such as post traumatic stress disorder and depression, said Dr Helen Berry from the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health at the Australian National University (ANU).

Riiiiiiight. Because those things have never happened before.

Despite the risk, this is an area that has received little attention, she added.

You know, on second thought, I think this area should be explored and studied tremendously. Perhaps it might explain the insanity that pervaded so many folks on the Left (and some on the right,) when it came to George Bush and Sarah Palin. Maybe it could explain the moonbattery practiced on the Left. And, maybe, just maybe, we could get an answer to why so many supposed scientists and citizens have lost their ever-lovin’ minds when it comes to anthropogenic global warming.

That really would be a good stopping point, but, I made the mistake of reading the whole story, darnitall!

“It’s becoming apparent that we’re experience the IPCC’s worst case scenario of climate change – or even worse,” said Berry. “We need to address the impact that this will have on mental health, now.”

Give us money to study this.

“All of these factors interact and could result in a great increase in severe mental health problems,” she added.

Money.

“The aim is to try to see mental health as part of an overall strategy that deals with climate change impact,” he said.

Money.

Despite their warnings, it’s not all bad news – Dr Berry added that there could be a positive side effect to communities facing the risks of climate change.

“Climate change could motivate collective action, which is the number one thing to protect mental health,” she said.

Socialism.

Children (and adults) will improve their mental health (and feel better) when they take their own personal steps to lessen the affects of climate change. Power – as always – to the people.

  • MediumHeadBoy

    There you go, proof positive.

  • Mike_M

The only mental health problem is the result of the steady diet of lies being fed to people by the liberal media.

You have to be insane to think tax increases are going to "save the planet".

I proved Global Warming myself this morning. Last night, we set records for the earliest cold snap in our area. So when I woke up this morning, I got into my SUV and drove around the block for a couple of hours. And it increased the temperature of the planet. I had to stop my experiment because I forgot my sunglasses and the sun was too bright for me to continue my personal experiment of the warming of the planet.

Now all I need is a couple of million dollars to publish my proof of man made global warming. Does anyone have Al Gore's address for me to put in my claim?

And, what have you done yourself, Realpolitik?

  • Realpolitik

Not that it is germane to the topic, but I'd say the fact I do not, nor ever have, owned a vehicle has not exacerbated climate change. Nor, come to think of it, have I ever had air conditioning. And – of course – recycle and reuse.

We have been told over and over again that CO2 is the cause of global warming. Everytime you exhale, you are causing global warming. If you really cared and wanted to stop global warming, you would stop producing CO2 and save the planet. Please do it for the children.

But, you use electricity and the Internet. They cause CO2 release. Do you take mass transit over there in Holland? That releases CO2. And 45% of Hollands energy comes from oil. Hmmph. Maybe you should have your power turned off.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/25998604@N03/sets/72…

As to the topic at hand: Man's contribution to the worlds climate is less than 1/10000 of 1 percent. Our sun contributes 98+% of the energy to effect climate. The math is simple. Global temps have been steady or falling since 1998, but CO2 has been rising. CO2 is there a lagging indicator to warming trends, not a leading indicator.

  • BIG

Realpolitik prefers math that is incomprehensible. Just because all the climate models used by the AGW have been wrong, their math is still 100% accurate? Anybody that believes that the only way to stop a crisis is to increase taxes is an idiot.

  • http://conservativebootcamp.com martinhale

Still looking to agitate around the climate issue, eh RP? I thought we went over this a few weeks ago.

Current hypothesis – More CO2 in the atmosphere = higher mean global temperature

Observed mean global temperature results – increases between 1970 and 1998; level from 1999 through 2006; cooling since 2006 through present

    Observed CO2 concentration in atmosphere – 1998 = 380ppm; 2009 = 388ppm

You can make the math as hard or as simple as you wish, however you do it, the result of any meaningful analysis of the hypothesis turn out the same – the hypothesis has failed to predict how things have turned out over the past 10 years. CO2 continues to rise at the same rate, and yet mean global temps have started to decline – the direct opposite of what was predicted/expected. The upshot of whatever "calculation" you perform on the observed data is that the hypothesis doesn't fit the data. The scientific method tells us that we need to try another hypothesis rather than trying to make the observations fit the hypothesis as in Briffa, et al.

I would guess this is a case of correspondence rather than causation. That is, AGW hysterics are likely to be depressed, mentally unstable, and hysterical in any case, and have seized upon climate change as an excuse.

Its good to care for your environment, its smart to pollute less and recycle or reuse what you can. It's good stewardship to use fewer resources if you can. It's hysterical wolf-crying to fearmonger with climate change lies.

Computer, electricity. Use the library's computer? Fuel to get to the library, and their electricity. Haul stuff to the recycle bin? Fuel. Leave it on the curb? They use fuel to go around town in a truck to pick it up.

It's freezing in October. Records are being set for early snowfalls and low temperatures.

Yes, the global warming hysteria depends greatly on ignorance of readily apparent fact.

  • http://networdblog.blogspot.com/ Christopher_Taylor

Eventually it will sink in around the world that we're not actually getting warmer and all the screaming and tearing of clothes was simply nonsense, if not flat out deliberate lies. Al Gore was a laughingstock in 2001, then he managed to turn it around by returning to his "cars are the biggest threat to the world" theme of the 1980s while his wife was running around trying to silence rock musicians. He's parlayed that into fame, acclaim, and billions of dollars. What happens when people finally notice he's cried wolf once too often?

What happens to the entire environmental movement? People are getting a little better at recycling and so on. Will they keep it up when they realize they've been lied to and manipulated?

There's a reason we teach kids that crying wolf is not just wrong but self defeating.

  • http://www.thepiratescove.us William_Teach

No more so than when adherents of any other religion find their preachers are less than honest.
