Apparently, American Teens Knowledge Of Climate Change Hoax Sucks

So, despite all the indoctrination, all the “spreading awareness”, the snowflakes just don’t get that they need to be freaked out and asking for the Prozac out of Mom and Dad’s stash

Today the Yale Project on Climate Change Communication released a new report entitled “American Teens’ Knowledge of Climate Change” based on a national study of what teens aged 13-17 understand about how the climate system works, and the causes, impacts, and potential solutions to global warming. This research provides an assessment of how much American teens have learned about climate change in and out of school. For comparison, they also report how teens’ knowledge compares with that of American adults. The report is available online here.

Overall, they found that 54 percent of American teens believe that global warming is happening, but many do not understand why. In this assessment, only 6 percent of teens have knowledge equivalent to an A or B, 41 percent would receive a C or D, and 54 percent would get an F. Overall, teens know about the same or less about climate change than adults. The study also found important gaps in knowledge and common misconceptions about climate change and the earth system. These misconceptions lead some teens to doubt that global warming is happening or that human activities are a major contributor, to misunderstand the causes and therefore the solutions, and to be unaware of the risks. Thus many teens lack some of the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about climate change both now and in the future as students, workers, consumers, homeowners, and citizens.

You can read some of the base conclusions by the Yalies at the above story or at Live Science, and some of the main ones are

  • 54 percent of teens say that global warming is happening, compared with 63 percent of adults;
  • 35 percent of teens understand that most scientists agree global warming is happening, compared with 39 percent of adults;
  • 46 percent of teens understand that emissions from cars and trucks substantially contribute to global warming, compared with 49 percent of adults; and
  • 17-18 percent of teens have heard of coral bleaching or ocean acidification, compared with 25 percent of adults.

Of course, the problem with this study is that it made certain conclusions in which to grade the snowflakes, which is why (Live Science link)

Only 6 percent of teens polled have an A or B level of understanding of climate change, while 41 percent have C or D grade

So, let’s see….starting on page 50 of the document, we have the “answer key”

  • Q1. Recently, you may have noticed that global warming has been getting some attention in the news. Global warming refers to the idea that the world’s average temperature has been increasing over the past 150 years, may be increasing more in the future, and that the world’s climate may change as a result. What do you think? Do you think that global warming is happening? [Correct answer: Yes]
  • Q4. Assuming global warming is happening, do you think it is… [Correct answer: caused mostly by human activities]
  • Q5. Which comes closer to your own view? [Best answer: most scientists think global warming is happening]

So, the study starts from the Climate Alarmist position, and the responders are graded on not buying into said alarmism. At least the study got this right

  • The Earth’s climate is warmer now that it has ever been before [false]
  • In the past, rising global temperatures have caused carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere to increase [true]

But then we get

Q25. How much does each of the following contribute to global warming? (order of items randomized) [Significant contributors to global warming: cars and trucks, burning fossil fuels for heat and electricity, deforestation, cows. Minor or non-contributors to global warming: the hole in the ozone layer, toxic wastes, aerosol spray cans, nuclear power plants, volcanic eruptions, the sun, acid rain, the space program]

And there we go, these Warmists have concluded the the primary driver of climate, the Sun, is a “minor or non-contributor.” This is why the whole issue of anthropogenic global warming is not science, but a rigid pseudo religion.
