Deadly South American Cold Snap The Fault Of………
Written By : William Teach

That’s right, our new and busted friend, sudden climate change (via Tom Nelson)

With high Andean peaks and a humid tropical forest, Bolivia is a country of ecological extremes. But during the Southern Hemisphere’s recent winter, unusually low temperatures in part of the country’s tropical region hit freshwater species hard, killing an estimated 6 million fish and thousands of alligators, turtles and river dolphins.

Scientists who have visited the affected rivers say the event is the biggest ecological disaster Bolivia has known, and, as an example of a sudden climatic change wreaking havoc on wildlife, it is unprecedented in recorded history.

With such extreme climatic events potentially becoming more common due to climate change, scientists are hurrying to coordinate research into the impact, and how quickly the ecosystem is likely to recover.

There are “about 1,000 dead fish for every 100 metres of river”, at least 550 dead penguins, thousands of cattle, and, oh, yeah, the article finally gets around to mentioning that hundreds of people have died, too. All because of sudden climate change, which is one of the latest unhinged and un-scientific talking points from the climate creationists, who somehow believe that The Day After Tomorrow is real science, and that Mankind’s output of CO2, a greenhouse gas, will cause cold weather.

I would be less skeptical of such associations if they could predict them in advance, or at least the trend.

Rather than simply labeling it afterwards.

Coming up with a model that can predict future events is interesting and a sign of a functional model. One that is only useful predicting past events is less useful.

For instance: I have come up with a solid theory on how the stock market works. Just give me yesterdays closing prices and I can predict what yesterdays closing prices were. It works every time!

It doesn't concern me so much these days that yet another scientist claims anything is caused by global warming, someone is going to say that about anything that happens: warm, cold, rainy, dry, spoiled fruit, uneven tire wear, itchy watery eyes, wife in a bad mood, whatever.

What bothers me is how gullible alarmists are because they just believe whatever they're told, without question.

    • UFKA_Smithwick

In a different time and place they'd be shoving 'counter revolutionaries' in to gulags for disputing the success of the latest grain harvest.

No, they can't actually see the food, but the government says it is there so it must true. Ergo everyone who denies it hates the government and is an enemy of the people.

It doesn't take a lot of editing to make the old slogans work again.

Global warming, exacerbated by the activities of humankind, strikes again.

    • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

      Where was the warming?

      • Martha

North and south and many points in between.

        • http://www.facebook.com/jayhoffer Justin Hoffer

So warming caused it to get colder?

Um… Maybe you should double check on the laws of thermodynamics… I'm pretty sure they cover this.

          • Martha

            Second Law of Thermodynamics

Heat cannot be transfer from a colder to a hotter body.

          • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

Sorry, that makes no sense in terms of climate, and is dead wrong in the way climate works.

          • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

It's not entirely if the earth were a closed system, or if the universe were in a state of temperature equlibrium, but since neither of these is true nor will ever be true, the Second law is completely mute.

          • mightysamurai

            Wrong. WRONG you idiot.

Firstly, the second law deals with closed systems, i.e. a system with no outside energy sources. The planet Earth is not a closed system. There are many outside energy sources that supply heat, most notably the colossal ball of nuclear fire commonly known as “the sun”.

Furthermore, the second law does NOT say that heat cannot transfer from a colder to a hotter body. It only says that such a thing cannot happen spontaneously. Some sort of work must be performed to cause it.

And even if we forget all of that, your idiotic statement still COMPLETELY contradicts itself. If heat cannot transfer from a colder to a hotter body as you claim, then how did global warming cause a cold snap in South America? It's currently winter in the southern hemisphere and summer in the northern hemisphere. If we were to accept your ridiculous notion that global warming caused a cold snap in the southern hemisphere, then we would be forced to assume that heat left the colder southern hemisphere and transfer to the HOTTER northern hemisphere. Something which you just claimed is impossible according to your laughably poor understanding of thermodynamics.

Second Law of Thermodynamics – Increased Entropy
The Second Law of Thermodynamics is commonly known as the Law of Increased Entropy. While quantity remains the same (First Law), the quality of matter/energy deteriorates gradually over time. How so? Usable energy is inevitably used for productivity, growth and repair. In the process, usable energy is converted into unusable energy. Thus, usable energy is irretrievably lost in the form of unusable energy.

“Entropy” is defined as a measure of unusable energy within a closed or isolated system (the universe for example).

The last time I looked, the Earth was enclosed within the universe.

Dear Lord, do you work hard on expanding your ignorance?

          • mightysamurai

The last time I looked, the Earth was enclosed within the universe.

So now the universe is warming because of our use of fossil fuels?

Are you guzzling lead paint between posts or something?

          • Martha

At least you have given up any pretense of understanding the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

          • mightysamurai

I've given up understanding your outlandish fantasy of what the second law of thermodynamics is, if that's what you mean.

          • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

And your understanding of it's meaning as applied to climatology, is far from thorough, factual, or realistic.

          • http://www.wordaroundthenet.com Christopher Taylor

Well, the solar system is warming, so I guess that's part of the universe.

Look you have to give idiot leftists like this twit a break, they know nothing of science but are convinced they're smarter and better than everyone else, so anything they say is the voice of Al Gore.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

No, Al Gores fury at our refusal to listen to him is causing the universe to warm.

          • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

“The last time I looked, the Earth was enclosed within the universe.”

Absolutely false, heat escapes from our planet out into the much colder confines of space all the time, just as does from every star in the universe.

There is no closed system to universe that is known to be expanding, and with space being near absolute zero in terms of temperature and vast beyond measure what small amount of heat escapes form the stars, has literally a negligble impact on the heat of all the atoms, meteor rock, and cold planetoids like the ice covered Pluto. If true Entropy were to be acheived, the amount of heat on Earth would melt it down to a molten mass one third it's current size and no atmosphere to speak of that amount heat only exists inside of stars, and we are not currently living in a star, nor do we have any means to create that amount of heat. The universe can can absorb 10^1,000,000,000,000 more energy before it can even begin to approach equlibrium.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

“The last time I looked, the Earth was enclosed within the universe.”

            Snicker. Wow.

By that logic there is no such thing as pollution since we can't create any matter that didn't already exist. We can merely move it around a bit and change it's confirmation some.

So the levels of mercury in the universe remain constant, ergo there is no mercury problem in the ocean.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

“Heat cannot be transfer from a colder to a hotter body. “

So then how can the world be said to be getting warmer if as you say heat is merely transfering from one place to another?

If that were the case the best you could argue would be that temperatures are getting more extreme, but the averages must remain constant.

That is of course, assuming you know what you're talking about.

    • http://www.wordaroundthenet.com Christopher Taylor

And like clockwork, a mind numbed leftist twit proves my point.

    • UFKA_Smithwick

Indeed, if it weren't for the tireless efforts of certain humans we'd have assumed this was simply weather, rather than being told over and over again that it is global warming.

Al Gore and the rest certainly are working hard to ensure that everything that occurs is the fault of global warming.

I assume that's what you meant by human activities exacerbating it.
