Sorry to have to have broken my responce to miller into two parts – had to dash to get to work. I gotta laugh, however, at my attempt to self-censor the obscenity in my previous comment by replacing the vowel with an asterisk, but then leaving the vowel in anyway. Oh well, I tried. ;-\

On to my other comments.

Firstly, I’d like to thank you for following up a comment about how liberal activists blur the line between the political and the personal with a comment intended to make your politics about climate change a personal threat to me and my children. From a debate perspective, you couldn’t have done a better job of proving the point I was making, and I owe you some thanks for that – it’s not every day that an opponent in a debate does that much to prove what you’re saying, and does so willingly.

Secondly, when I commented above that you used to be able to conduct a reasonable argument, I was referring, of course, to the days when you would actually debate. These days, you have fallen into the pattern of serially commenting on articles and others’ comments late at night when there’s no one around to actually debate you. You come in, just like hoggo used to do, drop your little turdlets of ‘wisdom’, which these days usually consist of a one- or two-liner with an attack on someone thrown in at the end, and then you leave. No discourse, no honest debate, simply the internet forum equivalent of a driveby. Then, there’s that pattern of wildly misinterpreting what others are saying. You veer off onto tangents which are peripheral to the point of either the OP or the comment to which you’re responding. That makes it difficult to actually debate you, ’cause you’re all over the map. And not in a good way.

In this instance, it’s obvious that you want to continue to wave your arms in the air and screech about climate change in spite of mounting evidence that it’s been a issue manufactured by a loose group of scientists/politicians and business opportunists in order to impose more control over people’s lives and fleece them of more of their money.

Last night, as is often the case with you, you fell back to a position that seems to imply that if climate change happens and people die, all us sceptics will be sorry. F*ck you and your attempts at guilt-tripping. You want to debate? Then bring it. Present some facts and figures. Marshall your scientific evidence and lay it out. I for one welcome that. I make that challenge to you knowing full well that you won’t follow up on it. You don’t have command of the facts, all you’ve got is your little snide remarks, your childish taunts, your ad hominem attacks and your attempts at emotional bullying.

You act as though this is the first time that our climate has changed. It isn’t. Seven major ice ages and dozens of smaller, regional ice ages along with the warm interglacial periods between them over the past 150MM years tells us that the potential for serious climate change has always existed. And these weren’t 2 or 3 degree changes in mean global temperature, they were 10-15 degree changes. Ice a mile and a half thick stacked up on the North American continental shield as recently in time as 100,000 years ago. Ice heavy enough to carve massive geological features, like the Great Lakes. Ice heavy enough to carve the valleys in Yosemite. Ice heavy enough to help flatten the mountains in New England. Now that’s climate change. And it all happened without mankind around to cause it, unless, of course, Ugg and Mogg were hiding SUV’s and coal-fired electrical plants somewhere where we haven’t found them.

Why do you dismiss and ignore the mountain of scientific evidence that climate has routinely changed for the entire span of earth time? Why is it so hard for you to understand that mankind has only made the technological and social advances of the past 10,000 years because our climate trend has been one of warming rather than cooling? Why do you choose to go around trying to psychologically bully people, especially children (to tie this back to the OP) with your implied threats of death and destruction if we don’t surrender our national and personal freedoms along with a chunk of our cash? What is it with you that you need to be so much in control of other people?

I’ll tell you what, miller – I think you need a new issue with which you can psychologically threaten people. So, in the spirit of Christmas giving, let me suggest something else you can wave and screech about – attack of the earth by space debris in near earth orbit. We know from the geological record that the earth has suffered massive strikes from outer space as asteroids and comets have collided with it. We also have been able to develop reasonable estimates of the time frames in which objects of different sizes strike the planet. It’s a certainty that it will happen again, and when it does, millions, tens of millions, even billions could die. It’s not a guess, it’s a certainty. The 20, or so people in the world who’ve received funding to look for these objects in space have logged several thousand of them so far that have the potential of striking earth. There’s an ongoing debate about an object that’s been named Apophis which is due to swing by earth in 2029 at only 18,000 miles, and again in 2036, this time missing Earth by about 20,000 miles. It’s an object that’s only 900 feet wide, so it won’t do much global damage, but if it lands near a large city, it’ll wipe that city out. Why don’t you get a movement going which has the aim of making people as afraid of that scenario as you want them to be of climate change? And just as with climate change, you can use it as a means to exert more control over people’s lives and tax the living bejeezus out of them. It’s a dream for a control freak such as yourself.

Don’t like that issue? Well, never fear, there are others. How about global magnetic reversal? We understand from the geological record that earth’s magnetic field, the thing which protects life on earth from cosmic ray bombardment, fades to a very low level and then reverses itself on a cycle that is irregular and difficult to quantify. There have been periods of tens of millions of years with no reversals; there have been periods when the magnetic field has reversed as frequently as every 25,000 years. There is a growing area of earth’s magnetic field over the Southern Hemisphere which rapidly weakening and that area is growing rapidly. It’s the South Atlantic Anomaly. Computer models of magnetic reversals show that this is common just before a reversal. What’s that you say? It’s just a computer model? Well, it was good enough for Algore, James Hansen, Phil Jones, Michael Mann et al, why isn’t a computer model good enough for magnetic reversal alarmists? Now there’s an issue you should be able to gin up some real hysteria about.

Think of it miller – you could become the next Algore. Think about the money, power and control you could amass. C’mon, you know that’s what you really want – to force everyone else to see things your way and get rich while doing it – so go for it, buddy. Do your very best to become the new chief crusader to STOP APOPHIS/MAGNETIC REVERSALS NOW!!!!!!!

Or, you could take my earlier advice and just f*ck off, rummie.
