Understanding How Harry Reid Is Fine With Telling Bald Faced Lies About Romney’s Taxes: It’s Not About What’s True; It’s About Who’s On Offense

“One of the things you’ll learn in dealing with the professional Left is that they have absolutely no ethics whatsoever when it comes to dealing with conservatives. They’re perfectly content to smear us, lie about us, or silence us in any way that they can get away with. It’s very much an “end justifies the means” mentality. Most conservatives who are used to dealing with the Left, understand this on an instinctive level. However, they still sometimes miss the big picture.

…To liberals, it isn’t about truth or the facts, it’s about who’s on offense. If you understand that, you start to understand how the game of politics is really played at the highest levels.” –: John Hawkins, Jan 18, 2011[2]

Decent people are stunned that Harry Reid is publicly sticking to an obvious baldfaced lie about being told that Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes for ten years.

But, look at it from Harry Reid’s perspective.

Liberals believe that the ends justify the means when it comes to conservatives. That’s why Reid has received some very mild criticism from other liberals for doing something that’s extremely sleazy and dishonorable, but most lefties are fine with it. Sure, Harry Reid might lose some credibility with the general public, but he won’t pay any price of significance for what he’s done in the press or with other liberals. So, at the end of the day, there are no real consequences for his lie.

Meanwhile, he gets to launch an attack at Romney that will draw a lot of press. Despite the complete lack of credibility his allegations have, some people who don’t look beyond the headlines will believe it.

Additionally, although it’s easy to make Harry Reid look like an idiot, it still requires Romney to go on defense to do it and in the process, he helps spread the original lie, which is that he didn’t pay his taxes.

Moreover, every moment that Mitt Romney spends talking about his taxes, he’s not talking about the failed stimulus, the destruction of America’s health care system with Obamacare, Obama’s incompetent handling of the economy, the 8.3% unemployment rate, and our skyrocketing debt.

So, if you have no honor and you’ll reap big rewards with minimal penalties for telling a lie, why not do it?
