Man Awarded Major Payout for Losing His Job After Refusing to Accept the ‘Mark of the Beast’

One man used his supposed religious beliefs to cash out big time in a lawsuit against his former employer. According to Beverly Butch, using a hand scanner is equivalent to accepting the mythical “mark of the beast”, and for that, he sued… and shockingly, won.

According to the Christian Post:

The U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit on behalf of Butcher against Consol Energy in September 2013 after the company refused to accommodate him when he told them that submitting to a newly installed biometric hand-scanner that tracks employees’ time and attendance conflicted with his religious belief.

Beverly R. Butch was worried that the biometric hand-scanner would give him the “mark of the beast” and that the technology was associated with the Antichrist, as described in the Bible. Revelations 13:17-18 states:

“and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.”

When Butcher requested an alternative method, which had been provided to two other employees because they had missing fingers, the company denied his wishes.

Butcher was issued a letter by scanner’s vendor, Recognition Systems Inc. which stated that the Bible was not conflicting with a hand-scanner:

“Scripture references the Mark of the Beast only on the right hand and forehead; and suggests that persons with concerns about taking the Mark of the Beast ‘be enrolled’ (meaning, use the hand scanner) with their left hand and palm facing up.”

But Butcher didn’t buy it. He continued with the lawsuit and was awarded $150,000 after being “forced” to leave the company after 35 years.

The vendor even used the Bible back to him to try to get this man to see sense, that their scanner didn’t jive with the description of the “mark of the beast”, but he still wouldn’t back off the crazy. The company plans to appeal the lawsuit, and in the meantime, a big thumbs up to this guy for reinforcing the idea that Christians are crazypants lunatics who are afraid of technology.
