This is going to be a hotly debated topic and I’m on the side of the farmer here. As you read on, you’re going to think I’m crazy and in favor of people being able to buy dangerous products that could possibly have dangerous effects on people.

Listen to the facts of the case and hear me out. Hopefully you’ll understand where I’m coming from and even if you don’t agree, you can respect it.

Samuel A. Girod, an Amish farmer from Bath County, is facing six years in jail for refusing to comply with federal regulations regarding the labeling of health products and obstruction of justice.

He was convicted on 13 charges including threatening someone in an attempt to stop him from testifying in front of a grand jury.

Girod represented himself in court and refused to recognize the authority of the court, but unfortunately for him that didn’t stop them from sentencing him to 6 years in prison.

So, what exactly did he do? Well, he sold herbal health products that were not labeled to the specifications of the United States government. Supporters of Girod have signed an online petition that requests his release, believing that he is being punished for not being a stooge of the government. All he wanted was to sell his products for skin disorders, cancer and sinus issues.

One of the products, “TO-MOR-GONE,” contained bloodroot extract, which is known to be caustic when applied to human skin.

A federal court from Missouri barred Girod from selling his products until he met certain conditions, including labeling his products correctly and including information about all ingredients used. Of course, he refused.

Watch the video below:

So, why am I on the farmer’s side if he is trying to sell dangerous products? Easy, because it’s not the government’s job to protect me from my own stupidity. If I want to buy a product that I don’t know everything about, that’s my decision. If this guy wants to sell dangerous products, that’s on him, but the government doesn’t get to act like a helicopter parent.
