A 22-year-old man named Jared Loughner has been arrested for attacking a group of people outside an Arizona grocery store with a firearm. Wounded in the attack was Arizona Representative Gabrielle Gifford and killed in the attack was Federal Judge John Roll. A 9-year-old girl was also killed in the nearly one dozen victims. Five deaths are being reported. (Judge Roll bio, pictured right)

Congresswoman Giffords is being reported as having survived with prospects for recovery good.

The killer is one prime nut.

According to Loughner’s YouTube channel his favorite books are:

Laughner has a YouTube video he titled “Hello” in which he lays out some of his insanity. This lunatic talks about a “new currency,” says he is a “conscience dreamer,” and complains of illiteracy in “English grammar” in those around him. Reading his rambling proves he has no clue about that latter himself. Apparently Loughner considered himself some sort of expert in “mind control.”

In another video Loughner claims to be a military recruit at MEPS in Phoenix and is upset that mini Bibles are being given to recruits. The Army has since reported that Loughner was rejected in 2008.

He goes on to say:

I worry about the rise of radical leftwing ideologies in the US at the moment. Losing the election seems to have unhinged them even more. The ideology is violent by nature and seeing their dreams come crashing down will only push them more towards extremism.

Thank you! Yeah, he’s insane. Very scary indeed, because people like this have access to guns, access to other people and can potentially influence others to be similarly crazy. The scariest thing about guys like this are, he doesn’t believe he’s crazy. He’s basically a martyr for his own cause, a self-God. Those are the people who really are too far gone to help.

It’s going to be hell these next couple of days, though. Because he has enough leanings on both the right/left/libertarian sides where all sides will be attacked and blamed for this. That’s another sad part of this tragedy.

The Comminist Manifesto was not a leftist book. It was a Communistic book. I read the Manifesto in a conservative scholatic school. It was required reading. The real communist of our generation are the right wing capitalist, freedom loving, and flag waving manufacturers that left American in favor of Communist China. Yup, he thinks he did a service to the world. People like Laughner think everyone and everything is out to get them, at all times, and this is his way of averting the threat.

Maybe he didn’t get officially diagnosed as mentally ill? Maybe one of his parents had a gun he could easily access? That’s going to be another question which will need to be answered, and will bring a round of debate on gun laws, which is also ridiculous. People kill people, not guns. I’m not totally sure but I think Arizona has pretty soft gun laws/control.

Another question that will be asked is going to be the fact that the mental health industry I believe was cut back in terms of federal funding. A lot of the nuts go thrown back on the street because of a lack of money/time/space to help these individuals. So this is a really complex situation, tragic, and it will be interesting to see how things play out.

He is using the word “currency” as a form of exchange between people. If you look it up in the dictionary, it is an optional form of defining the word.

He is speaking analogously, ok?

Treasurer = person who “controls” or manipulates financial currency… ipso facto he is trying to say you are in control of how, what, and why you think and believe things.

Some of this seems similar to gramsci’s talk of culture hegemony and counter cultural hegemony..
