Police Officer Stumbles Upon HORRIBLE Child Abuse Of 6 Year-Old Boy…So He Adopts Him!

An Oklahoma police officer has gone above and beyond and adopted a young boy he found while investigating a child abuse claim.

Officer Jody Thompson of the Poteau Police Department in Oklahoma has adopted 10 year-old John and his baby sister after a call came in that child abuse was going on, two years prior.

In 2015, Thompson was the officer to respond to the physical child abuse call, having early experience investigating abuse cases for the district attorney’s office.

“I’ve investigated child abuse cases before. I thought I’d better go ahead and respond.”

Thompson was astonished to see a gravely underweight eight year-old boy with his wrists tied up with belts, bruises marked his back all up and down, and a huge bump was right on his head. The boy had been submersed in a trash can full of cold water.

He weighed a bare 61 lbs. The officer added: “He did not have a spot on his body that didn’t have a bruise or abrasion. It was the worst thing I’ve ever seen.”

Thompson took the boy and wrapped a blanket around his body, took him to the Oklahoma Children’s Advocacy Center so that detectives could capture photo evidence of his body.

After the Center, Thompson rushed hims to the emergency room, where he stayed behind with the boy.

“I sat with him, and when he was admitted into the intensive care unit, I sat all night until the next day.”

And Thompson was instantly connected to John, and he knew that the boy would be in his life for good. Thompson shared what it felt like:

“When I’d seen him in that house shivering and his hands tied – just soaking wet and confused – I knew at that moment the only time I would be satisfied and sure that he was safe is if he was with me.”

The officer contacted the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and listed himself as a certified foster parent, and after that, he was able to bring John back to his family only a few days later. Thompson didn’t tell his wife Jeannie and their children Ryan and Charley – aged 15 and eight at the time – that they were going to have a new edition to the home.

The family couldn’t be happier with the executive decision.
