Apartment Complex Lifts Ban on Old Glory

The squeaky wheel really does get the grease. After the public reacted with outrage, an apartment complex has lifted its ban on Old Glory:

ALBANY, Ore. — Flags are OK again at an Albany apartment complex after the property manager reviewed the policy and decided she didn’t have the legal standing to ban flags from the exteriors of apartments and vehicles parked at the complex.

“If people want to fly any flag of any nationality, it’s their right,” said Barb Holcomb with Oaks Apartments.

KVAL News also contacted the American Civil Liberties Union to ask whether the policy banning flags from the apartment complex violated any laws. The answer from the ACLU: No.

But Holcomb said she received different legal counsel that led her to believe she is wrong to ban the flags.

More likely, she got sick of enraged countermoonbats burning up her phone line. Of the resident who originally took the story to the local media, Holcomb says,

He’s just a romping, stomping patriot.

Keep romping and stomping, patriots. It works. Likewise, the 45-day reform school sentence to punish a 6-year-old for having a Cub Scout knife was scaled back to a 3–5-day suspension when the public let its displeasure be known. We surround the petty tyrants who eat away at our liberties. If we push them hard enough, they will step back.

In addition to telling her that if she wanted to rent all the units in her complex, perhaps discretion was a better course of action, I'm relatively sure her alternate legal counsel also appraised her of what it might cost her in legal fees should she decide that keeping American flags out of her complex was a hill upon which she wanted to die.

Where in the Constitution or Bill of Rights does it state we should not be offended?

If the country you live in offends you then you should leave. From a programming stand point, not reinventing the wheel comes up in a different form; if you want to change the country you live in to be another version of another country then you should move to the original one.

You cannot make laws so that no one is ever offended. Use to be you could make laws so that the silent majority was offended. Now that they are not being so silent it is getting harder for the vocal minority to rule.

I'm glad to see the ban lifted, and it doesn't surprise me in the slightest that someone in Eugene banned the US flag.

However, on private property as far as I'm concerned, you're free to do what you wish and make whatever idiotic rules you want, no matter how offensive they might be to me or anyone else.

Every time a lib tries banning the flag and gets called on it, the 'management' comes out with the obligatory apology and explains how their 'policy' was misinterpreted and they really aren't the un-American USA flag hating bastards they seem to be.

It's the same thing time after time.

Halcomb though, no apology, still anti-American and not hiding it. I"m glad we didn't get the false apology that normally comes from something like this. I get an odd sense of satisfaction knowing how she really feels. I wish all libs would be this honest. Ha! Who am I kidding, never happen. I hope I didn't get anyone's hopes up.

CT- doesn't surprise me either. I live in Medford and on my street there are not a lot of flags flying. I have three U.S. flags flying at my house but I am now down to one because someone actually stole the other two I had flying. But I just keep replacing them and putting them up it doesn't bother me I'll keep annoying everyone who just can't stand my patriotism!
