Hero Teacher May Have Prevented Mass Shooting at Washington High School: ‘This Is Not a Joke’

This teacher really is a hero. He showed real courage when a student fired two shots into the air on Monday morning at school and he decided in an instant to tackle the student. The student was taken into custody and no one was hurt. That is what I call a good day. Brady Olson also earned even more love and respect from his students because he put his life on the line to save theirs. Teacher of the year anyone?

From TheBlaze:

Police said a 16-year-old student with a gun fired two shots into the air at North Thurston High School in Lacey, Washington, Monday morning when a teacher made the life-risking decision to tackle the shooter before he could harm any students.

Thanks to the heroic actions of the teacher, identified by the school district as Brady Olson, the shooter was taken into custody and no injuries were reported. The school resource officer called in the shooting at roughly 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

A parent provided KING-TV a chilling text message she received from her child during the horrifying incident:

Lacey Police Commander Chris Ward told KING-TV that the teacher “probably prevented worse things from happening.”

“I think it’s heroic. I think it’s guttural. People rise to the occasion when they need to do something,” he said.

Students expressed their gratitude for their teacher’s bravery in the aftermath of the lockdown:

Students were taken to the football stadium and later released to their parents after it was confirmed that the area was secure.

He didn’t even think, he just acted which is exactly what a hero does. The note above from the child who was at the school must have scared his/her mother half to death. It could have been much, much worse. But you know what would have been even better? Arming the teachers. Just knowing the teachers are packing would keep a lot of this from happening. It’s obvious from the social media postings, that Mr. Olson is like a dad to his students and now he is their hero. He did the right thing… the brave thing… and everyone’s child walked away okay. A good day indeed.
