Twitter Lynch Mob Rages Over Latest “Racist Police Brutality” Video, But Facts Tell Another Story

When you first watch the video, it looks like the officer is being far too aggressive with this female student. But appearances are deceiving and you should watch the video more closely. This 15 year-old girl was asked repeatedly to leave the classroom and she flat out refused. It escalated into having a police officer come remove her. If you watch, the officer was very calm and asked her quietly to stand up. She refused again. When he put his hands on her to make her leave, which is his job, she started punching and kneeing the officer and caused her own desk to tip over. He then dragged her over and told her to put her hands behind her back. This officer, in my opinion, did nothing wrong. There’s nothing racist about this. The one to blame here is the student.

From Louder with Crowder:

It’s verse-chorus-verse in Spring Valley, where we again see a 15-second video (or get 10% of a story on Twitter) and the social media lynch mob can’t wait 30 seconds before any facts come in. So to begin with, here was the 15 second, out of context video that sent Twitter into full mob-mode. If you scroll down, you’ll see the longer videos below.

Seeing the pure, unadulterated, uninformed rage on Twitter, I tweeted out something that I thought was quite reasonable.

Tackle2

Does the video look bad? Of course. It’s an adult cop vs a teenage girl. It’s also an adult cop who has been routinely rewarded for the work he has done in the past.

Fields has also received commendations for his work in schools. He was given a Culture of Excellence Award by a Richland County elementary school, where he also worked as a school resource officer in 2014.

“Ben has been working for the Richland County Sheriff’s Office Department since 2004 and joined the School Resource Officer Program in 2008,” a Sheriff’s Department newsletter said.

“He is assigned to Spring Valley High School as well as Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School, and has proven to be an exceptional role model to the students he serves and protects.”

Here’s the thing, the cop may be wrong. I fully acknowledge that (just like when I thought the cop was wrong in Eric Garner’s case). But he can also be wrong, without this necessarily being a race issue. He could just be a hot-headed cop. Of course, not only do we not have time to wait for facts to come in before GRRR RAGE, we don’t have time for people who simply say wait for the facts to come in…

Really, there isn’t? No facts? No facts whatsoever? Firstly, this is based on false premise. Not the least of which is that there was an incredible amount of “force” used against a girl. Secondly, that no use of whatever force used could be justified. Thirdly, this completely disregards any possible escalation that could have happened before a short, 15 second clip. I’m not saying this cop was right, but I certainly don’t think he can be unilaterally condemned from a 15 second clip.

Also, as anyone who’s practiced combat sports for years knows quite well, the most effective force to be used against oneself is that generated by… oneself. That’s what “Jiujitsu” is. That’s what cops are often taught. The initial story was that the cop put this girl in a “chokehold” and threw her across the room. But that desk flipping happened so quickly, so effortlessly, that anyone with an understanding of leverage and physics has a right to be skeptical.

Enter the new video. The new video that shows the girl punching the police officer and kicking wildly in her desk.

Now if you can’t watch that video on Instagram (though I recommend you do), here are some important things to note.

As you can see here, the cop never applied a chokehold. A headlock- or any kind of head-control does not equal a chokehold. To subdue any person, you’ve got to control either the head, or the hips. Here we see him trying to control her head, but more importantly, contrary to the initial accusations, he did NOT flip her desk. See his hand? It’ on her pant-leg.

Tackle5

That’s pivotal. For two reasons. 1) A pant-leg grab is non-lethal, non-painful and purely a hold used for control. Namely when being kicked. 2) It means that he did not grab her desk and throw it with her in it. He was clearly trying to pull her out of her desk. As a matter of fact, once his hand grabs her pant-leg, it NEVER LEAVES. Again, once his hand grabs her pant-leg, it NEVER LEAVES. At no point does he let go to flip the desk.Let’s look at the second image.

Tackle6

Okay, so right away we see that she’s punching a police officer. Which, is kind of a no-no. What else, she’s kicking her leg up and back? Why? Again, to try and free herself from the super-mean, evil pant-leg grab.

Ever leaned back to far on a chair and fall over in embarrassment? Now add the extra momentum of punching rabidly, while simultaneously kicking your leg up and back. That’s the kind of momentum that can very easily tip a desk over.

Does this mean the cop is right? Of course not. But we now have more facts. These facts have already changed the context. We should wait for the rest of them as well.

Allow me to present a brief timeline of what we have so far.

1.) Girl is disruptive in class. Teacher asks her to stop. Girl refuses.

2.) Teacher asks girl to leaves class. Girl refuses.

3.) Teacher calls down to the office, again asking girl to leave. Girl refuses.

4.) Office sends up “officer” who again asks girl to come with him. Girl refuses.

5.) Officer then tells girl that she needs to leave, or she will be forcefully removed. Girl refuses.

6.) Officer grabs girl to remove her from desk. She punches the officer and attempts to kick free, flipping her own desk.

7.) Officer drags her from the desk repeatedly asking her to put her hands behind her back. She continually refuses.

Twitter condemns him guilty of racist hate-crime. This is America.

At least one classmate is calling the cop racist and saying she was in tears. Color me highly skeptical over this. The girl was disrupting the class and was being defiant. The officer’s efforts may be a bit forceful, but they were required to do his job here. Naturally, the FBI and U.S. Justice Department have been asked to investigate this now. The media is playing it as a shocking assault, which it clearly wasn’t. We also don’t have the full context of the encounter – all we have is a quiet, poor student who was abused by a big ole racist cop. That’s disgusting and such a propagandic lie. A Twitter lynch mob convicted this cop for doing his job without bothering to get the facts at all. I agree with Steven Crowder on this – get the facts before you condemn this officer.
