WOW! Powerball Jackpot Grows to $900 Million… Drawing is Tonight

Since November 4th, the Powerball jackpot has exploded from its $40 million starting point to $900 million since no one has won the jackpot. This kind of huge jackpot was just what lottery officials hoped for last fall when they changed the odds of matching all the Powerball numbers, from about one in 175 million to one in 292.2 million. By making it harder to win a jackpot, the tougher odds made the ever-larger prizes inevitable. It pulls in a lot more money. But some person or persons is set to win an out-of-this-world jackpot tonight. Good luck with staying anonymous if you do win.

Powerball

From Fox News:

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Powerball jackpot has reached $900 million just hours before Saturday night’s drawing.

With sales breaking previous records, the odds are growing that someone will win. But if no one matches all the numbers, the next drawing is expected to soar to $1.3 billion, according to officials with the Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the Powerball game.

“You can throw out the logic. You can throw out the statistics,” Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, said Friday. “We’ve never seen jackpots like this. It’s a new experience for all of us.”

So many people were buying Powerball tickets in Iowa on Friday that lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer said some stores were running out of paper for tickets, leaving lottery workers scrambling to resupply the outlets. The lucky winner will take home an estimated $558 million if they choose a lump-sum cash prize, lottery officials announced Saturday morning. And if no one happens to strike it rich this time, the prize for the next drawing on Wednesday will reach a staggering $1.3 billion, officials added. Wow. I can’t even comprehend winning something like that. Somebody will hit the mother-load here soon and their lives will change forever. With Powerball tickets sold in 44 states, as well as in Washington, DC, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, all but six states require lottery winners to come forward publicly. Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina still allow winners to remain anonymous. This is the largest jackpot in US history. Saturday’s drawing is set for 11 pm ET. Good luck out there!
