Fred Thompson: “The war in Afghanistan has been lost”
Written By : John Stephenson

I don’t know how I missed this, but when I saw it I had to put it up. Its actually two days old, but the advice isn’t too old. Its also not too late yet.

Hat tip: Hot Air

Meanwhile, there is actually a little Democratic push back against the KSM trials.

Fred…would have been a good president. The kind than knows govt is not good and less is better. Too bad obama is here thanks to people thinking they are getting their gas and mortgage paid.

  • BIG

Fred is 100% correct. Obama has no intention of defeating our enemies. He is just looking for political cover so our surrender to them doesn’t damage his persona.

While I agree that if President Obama continues in this manner of “leadership” and his administration prosecutes the war on Terror in this manner, Afghanistan will be extremely problematic and might be declared a loss, resulting in a withdrawal of troops. Yet as bad as it will likely get, and as many lives, both Afghani and coalition soldiers, are lost it can be turned around with new and better leadership – or any leadership at all – and real military action.

I don’t understand how you can state that with no reason….other than political motivations.

History has shown that no amount of military action has conquered Afghanistan. “Real” or otherwise. Unless you are willing to use “as many lives, both Afghani and coalition soldiers” as it takes, what we are learning in Afghanistan is that the military is not the answer.

Yeah, we can pave Afghanistan, and put up a parking lot. Is that what you are advocating?

Yeah, well, you have a hard time understanding things most of the time, so that’s not entirely unexpected.

We are not trying to “conquer” Afghanistan. Only pure willful ignorance could possibly lead you to conclude that.

Ours did. We’re failing (right now) in the mopup, and you just want to give up entirely because… what, President Obama can’t make up his mind? Why exactly?

General McChrystal was President Obama’s personal pick to do the job. He was told to come up with a plan and submit it to the president. General McChrystal did, and President Obama approved it. Then… he changed his mind a few months later and said “uh, I need to think about this more.”

He’s still thinking about it. Supposedly.

What, precisely, do you find admirable or defensible about this?

Tell that to Ghengis Kahn. Or do you think he conquered the entire region by making apologies for the Mongols while dithering on military decisions?

    CT,

Your post is factually incorrect, at no time has America conquered Afghanistan, remember this was a secondary war for most of Bush’s term.
