Filling The Swamp: Has Charlie Rangel Cut A Deal? (Updated: Or Not)
Written By : William Teach

So much for transparency, responsibility, upholding the law, draining the swamp, and the “most ethical Congress EVAH!” CBS NY is reporting: Reports: Rangel Cuts Deal, Avoids Trial

New York Congressman Charles Rangel has reportedly cut a deal to admit to ethical wrongdoing and avoid a potentially humiliating public trial.

Harlem friends of Rangel tell CBS 2 they have been told that the details could be unveiled when the House Ethics Committee meets Thursday afternoon.

Stay tuned, and see how the Democrats sweep decades of criminal, in some cases, felonious, wrongdoing by Rangel under their rug.

Update: Apparently, the deal was squashed, though, they are looking at attempting another deal. Queen Nancy mimics Yoda in saying “Drain the swamp we did.”  Guffaw! That line came one paragraph after “As the hearing approached however, many of Ms. Pelosi’s closest aides have called on Mr. Rangel to settle for the good of the party.” What about the good of the nation in prosecuting this reprobate?

Does this represent a change in the 'inside-the-Beltway' politics which candidate Obama used as a central theme in his campaign and which he vowed to end?

For the sarcasm impaired, that was a rhetorical device intended to both poke fun at the failings of Mr. Obama and simultaneously highlight the inherent corruption of politicians.

      Especially Democrat politicians.

  • UFKA_Smithwick

I'm guessing he will keep his job and face no real punishment.

I would very much like to be wrong. But given his connections and the leanings of congress/whitehouse I really don't see him being punished appropriately.

It's like Ted Stevens, but with Democrats.

      • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/ELCWV5ANDUEJ5D5PB35FL2LZ6Y Bildo

Republicans chose not to re-elect Stevens after his shenanigans came to light. I wonder if Democrats will hold Rangel to as high of a standard? (Rhetorical question. We already know they won't)

        • beastdog

Are you kidding me, Rangel's shenanigans will become all Bushes and the Republicans fault ( the state run media will run with that in a heart beat). Rangel's district of Harlem will re-elect him with the aid of ACORN with 125% of the vote, he will become a Democratic party hero.

        • Rickvid in Seattle

Kinda like Teddy “Splash” getting re-elected for decades, Marion “the bitch set me up” Barry getting re-re-re-elected, like that Mass. Rep caught bending an underaged male page over his office desk and then turning his back on the House when he was censured. Standards? Dems ain't gottem.

      • Mediumheadboy

And you're like Rain Man, but not as intelligent.

  • Christopher_Taylor

Yeah well they couldn't help finding problems with Rangel since he was so blatantly and deeply corrupt, but that doesn't mean they can't sweep it under the rug now. Remember: for a Democrat winning matters more than ethics, and only a Republican is dumb enough to do the right thing even if it costs them elections.

  • baoxian

Political donors will pay off Rangel's back taxes with no penalties, while he blames Republicans and white people for the entire incident.

    • http://conservativebootcamp.com Martin Hale

I'll go you one better Baox – his legal representation is coming from two legal firms registered as lobbyists, and I believe that it's being provided pro bono. Chalk up another chapter of sleaze, corruption and insider politics in the long, sad saga of Chas. Rangel.

  • Rorschach256

Word on the street is that he won't resign either.

    • gfchicago

And you know that the people of Harlem will re-elect him come November. They will think that he did nothing wrong. They'll just think that he got over on whitey.

Is it any wonder the approval rating of Congress is around 10%? Actually, I have to wonder why it's so high.

    • UFKA_Smithwick

What's the margin of error on that poll?

      • Rickvid in Seattle

        +/- 13%

  • Karma Hoser

AAaaaw yaaas, the “mothe ethical Cawngreth eeevaaaahhhh”!
Just like “the most transparent administration ever”!!
