Snap! Dick Cavett Weighs In On 9/11 Debris Field Mosque
Written By : William Teach

Since Dick’s op-ed piece is at the NY Times, you can easily figure out which way it’s going

Real Americans, Please Stand Up

Got that? With the headline, we learn that simply because you, and over 60% of the country, are exercising your 1st Amendment Right to Free Speech, you are now not a real American.

All this talk about the mosque reminds me of two things I heard growing up in Nebraska.

I had a 6th grade teacher who referred to American Indians as “sneaky redskins” and our enemies in the Pacific as “dirty Japs.” This abated somewhat after I asked one day in class, “Mrs. G., do you think our parents would like to know that you teach race prejudice?” She faded three shades.

Dick was probably beaten up quite a bit during recess.

These are not proud moments in my heritage. But now, I’m genuinely ashamed of us. How sad this whole mosque business is. It doesn’t take much, it seems, to lift the lid and let our home-grown racism and bigotry overflow. We have collectively taken a pratfall on a moral whoopee cushion.

When is a liberal not ashamed of the USA? Yet, they never leave. Probably because most other countries do not want to add to their stable of miserable and morose citizens.

I like to think I’m not easily shocked, but here I am, seeing the emotions of the masses running like a freight train over the right to freedom of religion — never mind the right of eminent domain and private property.

Wait, what? Eminent domain? I wasn’t aware of the mosque being part of the government and forcibly taking over the property.

After some ad hominum attacks, some misdirection, we get

Our goal in at least one of our Middle East wars is to rebuild a government in our own image — with democracy for all. Instead, we are rebuilding ourselves in the image of those who detest us. I hate to see my country — and it’s a hell of a good one — endorse what we purport to hate, besmirching what distinguishes us from countries where persecution rules.

If you are getting the idea that the entire editorial is emotion based, with little actual content and no real adult argument, you’d be correct. But, hey, since you, and the majority of Americans, oppose a mosque being built near Ground Zero, led by an Imam who refuses to condemn Hamas as a terrorist group, who blames America for 9/11, and would like to see America become more Sharia compliant, well, you just aren’t an American anymore. The highest form of patriotism is apparently no longer dissent, nor is free speech allowed.

And, oh, yeah, we are about to learn quite a bit more about Imam Rauf, via Atlas Shrugs.

    Dick Cavett is still alive?

    • http://wlso.fm/wordpress/ Uncleshag

Alive, but brain dead. (Think Andy Griffith.)

  • Huron Voyager

You idiots are aware that the Pentagon has a Mosque, right? Bunch of bigots. No wonder none of you, especially Hawkins, serve in the military. They wouldn't let you in.

    • northerncanuck

I'm betting a lot of posters here knew about a mosque at the Pentagon long before yourself, and they're just fine with it.

      Bigot; heal thyself.

      • Huron Voyager

        You're no Canadian.

        • northerncanuck

Really? That's your reply to your foolishness and bigotry being called out?
          Sad.

        • mightysamurai

Typical leftist. Anyone who disagrees with you becomes an “unperson”.

        • TheDickNixon

Neither are you, or at least your isp says you aren't.

          • Huron Voyager

Flagged for stalking and reported to Ontario Provincial Police. Enjoy prison.

          • Mr. EMT

Looking at the IP adress someone has is not considered stalking, there is nothing illegal about it.
Go ahead and bug ontario police, im sure they could use the laugh over some inbred nitwit paranoid about being “stalked” calling them.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

Wow, that is pretty lame, even for you.

Do you really think that intimidates people?

I will however be reporting you to the Canuckistan Human Rights Council for impersonating a Canadian with the purpose of branding all Canadians as mentally deficient. That kind of bigotry will not be tolerated.

            Enjoy your reeducation camp racist.

          • TheDickNixon

prison, is that the game you and your “soldier” play? You the top or the bottom huron, or do you get the choice.

          • Huron Voyager

You seem to have an obsession about anal sex, TheDickNixon.

        • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

          You're no human.

        • Mr. EMT

          And you are inbred.

    • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

Is that the extent of your argument? Pretty sad, really. An emotional based deflection devoid of content and an understanding of the issue, which I am not going to waste my time explaining.

      Bark bark.

      • billdalasio

You know, Mr. Teach, the older I get, the more convinced I am that modern liberalism isn't really about policy or understanding the issues. It's about establishing the adherent's sense of their own self-worth. That is to say, the ideology tells its adherents that, if they accept the liberal catechism completely and enthusiastically, they may consider themselves smarter, more enlightened, and more moral than the other. When you understand it from that perspective, you get a better sense of what Huron Voyager is doing here. This isn't about trying to convince any of us, or even score debating points. It's about gratifying him or herself about his status versus everyone else.

      • Vegeta1

in case you haven't seen huron stupidity before, yes that's the extent of both it's argument and intellect.

      • fail_baby_fail

What makes the mosque in the pentagon different then the one in NY? People died there too. Why nothing if the outrage is about how close Muslims are to the crash site. I would say in the same building is a bit closer then 2 blocks.

        Why is this different?

        • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

The Mosque in the Pentagon was there before 9/11, just like the Mosque that Cordoba House is affiliated with. We're not asking for either to be moved/removed. We're only asking that they choose a different location.

And as a side not the Pentagon the outer perimeter walls are longer than a Manhatten Ave to Ave Block by almost 50 ft. and from the center of one wall to the opposite corner is is more than 1.6 of those same blocks.

In other words Fail, the Pentagon is huge and the relative of location of the mosque to the crash site is possibly quite far.

        • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

As pointed out, the Pentagon mosque was there prior. Furthermore, at least in this case the Islamists attacked a military target, rather than a civilian one.

          • fail_baby_fail

So only a new mosque is insulting? Old ones are just fine. Um ok…….

What if a old mosque moves into a new building is that insulting?

          • mightysamurai

Why do you insist on annoying people?

We don't want a new mosque this close to Ground Zero. Why is that so difficult for you to grasp? Why do you constantly fail to understand this simple point?

          • StanW

Because to Liberals like FAIL, tolerance is a one way street. WE must be tolerant that a few Muslims want to build a Victory mosque near the place they did the most damage. But they are not required to be tolerant to the overwhelming majority of people in New York that see the mosque as an insult.

          • StanW

What if you were to go outside and play in the traffic until you became a hood ornament, that work for you, Fail?

          • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

What if the Cordoba Project, which is supposed to be about building bridges, realizes that they have annoyed over 60% of Americans, and, in the spirit of coming together, realizes that, and builds the mosque/center somewhere else a bit further from Ground Zero?

          • http://www.facebook.com/jayhoffer Justin Hoffer

The double use of the word “fail” in your name works rather well. You failed to notice that in this case, the Muslims were attacking their own, and you failed to notice that the Pentagon was a military installation, and therefore a legitimate target, UNLIKE THE WORLD TRADE CENTER!

        • Mr. EMT

Ran across something that made me laugh.
Brought to you by the same source that has “proved” obamao's birth certificate.

          http://factcheck.org/2010/08/no-pentagon-mosque/

You never cease to continue to live up to your name, Fail.

    • gfchicago

Oh look potty mouth is back.

      • fail_baby_fail

“Go fuck yourself. Your are a lair and you know it.”

Speaking of potty mouth ^^^^ that was you in another post. So why don't you shut the fuck up.

        • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

You first, asshole. Stay classy, baby.

          • gfchicago

            Thanks Bthewolf.

        • gfchicago

          I didn't call anybody a derogatory name.

So I guess it's ok with you when a man calls a woman the c word then?

I don't have to shut the fuck up.

          • the_hawk

GF, don't worry about that little infantile poseur. Liberals have lost the argument when they get down to personal attacks. I almost posted something pretty crude myself on his claim about nobody here having served, but didn't want to feed the troll.

          • gfchicago

Hawk, I know you're right. Normally I do ignore it, but there is something about someone here to agitate about the Catholic religion, when the topic was about Muslims, and I lost my temper because I happen to be Catholic. Plus as a woman I don't appreciate being called the C wordd.

I guess also I've never seen a crop of liberal posters that are this nasty.

Stan needs to convince John to start ordering trolls from a better store than Trolls-R-UsTM , perhaps he needs to look in to Value Dollar TrollsTM

          • the_hawk

I think you handled yourself very admirably, and you certainly don't need me to fight your battles. We all enjoy your comments here, and of course I view you as a kindred spirit based on our Sawyer connection.

          • gfchicago

Thanks Hawk. My father always taught me to defend myself, because he wouldn't always be around to help me out. I guess it's the Military spirit to learn to defend yourself and others. I feel a kindred spirit as well since we both did time at K.I. as it were. Although I was just a teenager when my dad was stationed there. You were in the Air Force when you were there a few years after my family.

          • StanW

I've given John the quotes I got from there and Troll-Mart. Just waiting on him to make a decision!

          • gfchicago

LOL Stan, I hope he gets back to you really soon.

          • Fail_Baby_Fail

If that is so then gf got her ass handed to her in the is Obama a Muslim post. Bennorman35 kept his/her cool and gf hit the roof Fail baby Fail.

          • gfchicago

I don't know why the hell you are trying to pull Hawk in to this argument.

He had nothing to do with it. This is between you and I since you decided to interject yourself into an argument between Huron and myself that had nothing to do with you.

You don't get it do you, typical lib. This is not about debating any pertinent issues that are within the framework of the initial post, this is about you having a wad in your panties because I took offense with a couple of other posters that have nothing to do with you.

Since you seem to like to call me out for what I said to Benny whatsy whosy, when are you going to address Huron calling Rose and I the C word?

          • fail_baby_fail

Sure thing…… Huron shut the fuck up with that shit. You want to get a point across, your doing it wrong. Let the right act like children we should be above that. We are above that. Let people like gfchicago say things like “go fuck yourself”. Her argument was reduced to petty insults. She lost the exchange because she could not refute the argument. All she had was insults in the end.

            How was that?

          • Mr. EMT

Right, however your weakest link is this is planet earth.
Not whatever fantasy planet you dream of being on while you dwell in your parents basement.

          • Fail_Baby_Fail

“Go fuck yourself.” As quoted by gfchicago

Not a direct attack, But a pretty bad one anyway. I read the entire post if it was “highly emotionally charged” It was all you, Bennorman35 was using facts and keeping his cool and not attacking. He had a point of view you didnt like it. YOU are the one that couldn't hang and lashed out because he was talking about your religion. Dont play the victim.

I just reread the posts in question you had your ass handed to you and ya lashed out.

          • gfchicago

            So you say jerk.

          • fail_baby_fail

“Evidently your significant other other hasn't called you on it.
I guess your significant other is a blow up doll or a man.”

Is this you taking the hi road? LOL…… Your no better then Huron, you just use less harsh words. What if I was gay should I take that as a insult? Do you just assume I'm a male so throw out my significant other is a man. What exactly was your point in saying that? Do you pat yourself on the shoulder after typing that…… oh burn I got him good.

Funny thing is that stopped working in the 6th grade. To think I was told girls mature faster then boys. You just proved that wrong.

Oh and about typical lib jumping in between debates, I can show you dozens of times when your side acts the same way. Want links, I'm glad to show you. Just ask. Something about rocks and glass houses.

          • Mr. EMT

“What if I was gay should I take that as a insult?”

What do you mean, “What if?”
You are gay, no one could brag so much about being tea bagged and not be gay.

          • fail_baby_fail

Hey GF this is a good example, of your side jumping in. Again calling someone gay is 6th grade all over again. Congrats emt your in junior high.

          • TheDickNixon

remember fbf it's a lifestyle choice. You can choose to be normal, if you want to.

          • Huron Voyager

Homosexuality is not a choice. Have you never studied biology?

          • Mr. EMT

Right, Failure is not an option…

I wish I could have resisted that quote, but it was biology that made me say it.
Hey Fail, even huron knows you have no choice about being gay.

          • http://www.wordaroundthenet.com Christopher Taylor

He's not saying the inclination is a choice, he's saying the action upon that is. And Biology teaches nothing about homosexuality, you might mean “psychology” but I doubt it. You probably are just too ignorant about the topic to know better.

          • Mr. EMT

Aww, poor little Failure, crying because people aren't taking the high road while he slithers around on the low roads.

I don't consider it jumping in, I consider it ambushing.
I watched your side do it enough that I never considered for a moment liberals respected anything other than numbers.
You are like scavengers when you see one target, you gather and gang up and think you are strong.

          • gfchicago

You started it, so you have no one to blame but yourself.

    • TheDickNixon

Top or bottom Huron? Or do you get to make the choice?

    • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

      Racist

    • Wiff O'Grapeshot

      See my post above.

And FYI. I have recently retired from 37 years in the military. How about you you E-Nothing no time in grade?

    • Mr. EMT

Take your inbred opinions elsewhere, your words have no value

  • northerncanuck

    “I had a 6th grade teacher …”

I call B.S. on that little tale. That would have been how many decades ago? And Cavett was standing up against “race prejudice” in some small Nebraska town?

    • http://www.facebook.com/abirmandal Abir Mandal

I call BS too… having a 6th grade teacher implies he passed 5th grade.

      • the_hawk

Which brings to mind one of Jeff Foxworthy's “you might be a redneck jokes”:

“If you refer to the sixth grade as my senior year….”

    • the_hawk

Totally agree! I laughed out loud as I pictured little self-absorbed Dicky Cavett, at the age of 11 or 12, supposedly asking his teacher a question like that.

Oh, and the Japs were dirty back then, too. WAY dirty.

  • billdalasio

Has Dick Cavett ever been anything other than a third-rate intellect with an overinflated sense of his own self-worth? My sense is that he was only able to get his own television show because his overwhelming mediocrity made him the least potentially intimidating or threatening interviewer one could hope for. Dick Cavett could make watching paint dry interesting because, in comparison to him, it is.

As to his argument (not that there really is much, beyond the presumptuous sneering of a self-defined elite), it would be a terrible thing if anyone's religious freedom were in jeopardy. Fortunately it isn't. Even though there's no record of the courts defining a freedom of location of religious practice, mosque opponents aren't even trying to forbid the location of a mosque at the site. They are attempting to persuade the mosque developers to locate it somewhere else.

The man is showing himself to be morally and intellectually obtuse.

  • Martha

Thank you for bringing Mr. Cavett's essay to my attention. Having now read the whole thing, I find Mr. Cavett's erudite intelligence is once again confirmed. Perhaps pulling the septic bandages off the racial sore which infects the USA might lead it to finally being lanced.

    • gfchicago

      ROTFLAMO!!!

      Good luck with that.

      • Martha

It's an old dawg, but it still hunts real good. From the Caucasian incursion which dispatched the indigenous peoples, to utilizing Blacks for economic profit, to pointing at the yellow menace, to signalling out those of a swarthy nature with different language and religion as “them”, racism is having a damned good run.

        • gfchicago

Sure whatever, it might hunt well with the libs, but the rest of us are sick of hearing it, because 9 times out of 10 the charge has no merit.

          • Martha

It is not the liberals signalling out the less white amongst us.

          • StanW

Less White? What does that even mean, Martha?

          • Martha

“Less white” means something other than Caucasian, stan. To constantly list all the races which are treated badly in the USA takes too much time. Always glad to educate ya.

          • http://www.thepiratescove.us/ William_Teach

Hmm, what would you say to classifying people, putting them in boxes based on their skin color, nationality, and religion? Would that be racist/bigoted?

          • UFKA_Smithwick

Don't you see? People need to be divided up by their race so they can be treated accordingly.

Holding everyone to the exact same standards and ignoring skin color would be racism.

/I worry about this country at times.

          • StanW

Something other than Caucasian, you mean like EVERYBODY here?

            You are an idiot, Martha!

          • gfchicago

I call bullshit on that. You have created a victim class that the only way that they think they can get ahead is to scream racism.

I personally don't care if a person is orange with purple poka dots as 99.9% of conservatives feel. I respect everyone, until they give me a reason not to.

It's you libs that think that there has to be a special class assigned to each group and in the end it winds up hurting everyone.

If you really truly want everyone to get ahead and succeed you treat them all the same and not create special classes, if you don't do that then we as a nation fail.

          • Martha

Yes, it is easy to say you don't care if a person is orange or poka dot. I note you don't say the same for Blacks.

          • gfchicago

Really, really? Are you that dense? It means I don't give a rats ass what color a person is.

          • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

Yes martha really is that dense!

          • gfchicago

I guess that this means you lost the argument.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

Odd that in this post-racial society where Obama has healed all racial wounds we now talk about race more than ever before in recent history.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

Cite evidence of this please so your argument can be dismantled systematically please.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

9/10? You're being far to generous to them I would say.

Hearing an accusation of racism from the left that actually has some merit (not even necessarily true, but actually based on *something*) is a very rare occurrence. Something to log in your journal and regale your grandchildren with wild tales many years down the line.

        • TheDickNixon

“to utilizing Blacks for economic profit,”

So now you want to discuss the Democratic Party? flagged for threadjack.

          • Martha

Hmmm. You flag a post about racism because someone mentions racism. Quirky mind you got there, dicky.

        • StanW

“…racism is having a damned good run.

Yes it is Martha, and always with that little 'd' behind the name.

          • Martha

Not 'always'. Not even in the majority.

          • StanW

I'd ask you to share when it isn't from the Democrat side, but I'm in no mood for youre lies.

          • UFKA_Smithwick

Never fear though, we are working hard to get them out of office.

        • UFKA_Smithwick

Not really. Leftists have been screaming it for years but lately it doesn't seem to much do anything.

Before the mere accusation would spur a whirlwind of apologies, donations, and ultimately surrender. Now it spurs “well, prove it moron”.

    • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

      Bigot

      • Martha

Thank you for identifying yourself. But it was not necessary.

        • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

          Bigot!

          • Martha

Thank you for repeating yourself. But it was not necessary.

          • the_hawk

I'm one of those “less than white” people you keep talking about, and I haven't experienced any of the racism you claim is out there.

Oh, and stop presuming to speak for people like me. Inherent racism is alive and well in your party, not mine.

    • http://www.patriotpost.com bthewolf

      Bigot!

    • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/ELCWV5ANDUEJ5D5PB35FL2LZ6Y Bildo

Isn't their a recently deceased Exalted Cyclops that you should be Eulogizing or something?

      • gfchicago

I seriously doubt that she even know that you're referring to the late Senator Robert Byrd. She might only know the President, Vice President, and maybe, just maybe the speaker of the house's name.

I doubt that she knows about anything but her sanctimonious view of tolerance here in the U.S. and believes that we need to follow Europe into decline.

    • CoolCzech

Martha, you've never recognized erudite intelligence the many times it has kicked you in the ass over the course of your life. Why would you think you'd recognize it now?

    • UFKA_Smithwick

“Perhaps pulling the septic bandages off the racial sore which infects the USA might lead it to finally being lanced. “

What in the hell are you talking about? He didn't mention the democrats, Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton, Obama, Byrd, or any of the rest.

How can you address the racial sore that infects modern America without addressing those people who express it most voraciously?

  • Jane

It strikes me that the tolerance that many are asking for from the builders of the mosque is that they be tolerant of some Americans' simple hatred of Islam.

That's not the kind of tolerance many people want to give, or should: Pweese, pweese dont build that mosque, it will remind me that I hate all muswims!!'

    Please. Get over it

The mosque will be built. It won't be within sight of Ground zero. And it will be just fine, just like the other mosques in downtown, the mosque in the pentagon, etc.

Protesting on the grounds that “We hate you” doesn't serve anyone and makes America looking like a backwater.

    • Wiff O'Grapeshot

      Let's get this stright.

There is no mosque in the Pentagon. Infidels are not allowed in mosques.

There is a non-denominational chapel space that is used by Muslims and eight other religions.

If it were simple bigotry then wouldn't all mosques in the US be protested, not just this one?

      Of course.

So think, what is it about this one single mosque that makes it different than the thousands of others that are not being protested? No no, don't check your talking points, the answer isn't there. Utilize your independent thought processes (not too much they will have severely atrophied at this point).

This isn't about the Culture Center at Park 51. There are already Mosques in the area. The builder is as moderate as you can get. The building of the cultural center displays what needs to be displayed about America: We embrace pluralism and a variety of religions.

There's nothing about this cultural center that differentiates it form mosques in the area, other than it is less of a mosque and run by a very well respected man that has supported a moderate, modern version of Islam.

Given all this, why the complaint? It's all about bigotry and those willing to exploit it.

        • UFKA_Smithwick

Nope, you didn't do what I said. You did the opposite and reverted to talking points.

So I'll say it again: if this were merely about bigotry then all mosques would be protested.

That is most definitely not the case, only this one has stirred up so much controversy.

          Why?

And as a secondary question: do you believe the various democrat leaders and muslims who have likewise disapproved of this particular mosques are bigots?

There are already Mosques in the area.

And yet none of them have drawn any form of protest.

Why don't you answer UFKA_Smithwick's question? If this opposition were truly rooted in bigotry, as you claim, then wouldn't all mosques in the country (or at least in Manhattan) be drawing protests? Wouldn't they all be facing opposition?

      You are an ignorant racist.

  • UFKA_Smithwick

Hmm, so in this case disagreeing with the president makes you not a real American?

Gee wasn't that fascism just a short while ago?

Dick Cavett, per Wikipedia, was born in 1936. Most people are about 11 in the 6th grade. So some teacher that quite possibly lost a brother or friend or husband or was close to someone that had was still smarting a bit over the Bataan Death March and called the Japs “dirty Japs.” (Why is “Japs” supposedly so bad, but Brits or Yanks ok, anyway?) in 1947.

First of all, Cavett is full of himself if he would have us imagine he would have said any such thing to that woman. But for the sake of argument let's put that point aside. What an insufferable, self-satisfied, preening little smug @sshole that kid would have been, at such an early age!

    • CoolCzech

By the way, I find such fretting over the term “dirty Japs” by people that routinely use expressions such as “ugly Americans” and (in sneering tones) “White Guys!” ironic and almost amusing.

      • UFKA_Smithwick

Spoken like a Typical White Person ™, ie stupid, racist, ignorant, selfish, and wretched in every way.

Oh, but it's not racist when they do it.
