State Demands Christian Bakers Pay $135,000 for Refusing to Bake Gay Wedding Cake

Sweet Cakes By Melissa is still being persecuted by the state of Oregon, this time the state is trying to force the small business owners to pay a fine of $135,000 because they refused to serve a gay wedding.

The small business owners are being financially ruined by this state-sponsored persecution.

An administrative law judge said that Sweet Cakes by Melissa, in the Portland suburb of Gresham, discriminated against Rachel Bowman-Cryer and her wife Laurel and caused them emotional suffering.

Melissa Klein and her husband Aaron refused to make the couple, who held a commitment ceremony in June 2013, a cake after learning that they were lesbians in January of that year because they disapprove of gay marriage for religious reasons.

The Bowman-Cryers filed a civil rights suit soon afterwards, and the case has joined a series of similar proceedings in a national debate about anti-LGBT discrimination and religious freedom.

They said during compensation hearings that they had received death threats and were worried about losing their two foster children after the case received widespread attention, according to Oregon Live.

You can bet that the gay couple are in no real fear of “losing” their foster children and that their claim is just a lie. A state that would persecute Christians for their beliefs would never remove foster children from a gay household!

Sweet Cakes By Melissa had raised over $100,000 on their GoFundMe page, so they are getting pretty close to paying this fine off if they really end up having to do so. Still, this doesn’t pay for all their legal fees and the small business owners are about ruined by this state-sponsored persecution.

The GoFundMe page is no longer active. The GoFundMe website canceled the page because since the small business owners were actually convicted by the Oregon court, they are no longer eligible to have a fundraising page. The GoFundMe people say that they don’t allow fundraising for crimes. It isn’t known if GoFundMe can deny them the money they raised so far.
