The Difference Between Bob Menendez and Lois Lerner

When the government fears the people, there is liberty. Recent stories featuring Bob Menendez and Lois Lerner indicate what you get when the government does not fear the people.

Regarding Bob Menendez:

A federal grand jury indicted Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey on corruption charges Wednesday, the Justice Department’s first criminal charges against a sitting U.S. senator since the flawed prosecution of Alaska’s Ted Stevens in 2008.

Mr. Menendez plans to step down from his role as the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, according to a person familiar with the matter. He has been a vocal opponent of two of President Barack Obama’s key foreign-policy initiatives: the rebuilding of ties with Iran and Cuba.

That is, he was skeptical about Obama going out of his way to unilaterally cozy up to America’s two most vociferous enemies. Now he is paying the price.

The Iranian and Cuban regimes are similar in that both have expressed an interest in attacking the USA with nuclear weapons. Cuba repeatedly urged the Soviet Union to do so. Iran is expressing this interest by feverishly developing nuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles with which to deliver them, all the while riling crowds with the slogan, “Death to America.”

As far as we know, none of this bothers Lois Lerner any more than it would any other reptile. Consequently,

The Justice Department will not seek criminal contempt charges against former IRS official Lois Lerner, the central figure in a scandal that erupted over whether the tax agency improperly targeted conservative political groups.

Ronald Machen, the former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, told House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) in a seven-page letter this week that he would not bring a criminal case to a grand jury over Lerner’s refusal to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in March 2014. The House approved a criminal contempt resolution against Lerner in May 2014, and Machen’s office has been reviewing the issue since then.

Other prominent scoundrels who belong in prison but are not headed there for political reasons include Hillary Clinton and the scofflaw running the Injustice Department himself, Eric Holder.

Menendez is a cockroach to be sure, and not only because he takes bribes. But at this point, scuttling on six legs is common to all Democrat officeholders. The ones that get stepped on are those with even a sliver of decency, sanity, or patriotism in them. The rest toe Obama’s line, and have nothing to worry about (assuming cockroaches really can survive a nuclear attack). Unless the house gets fumigated.

One is less than 100% rotten, so he will be punished.
