The Union Money Party
Written By : Dave Blount

Why would center-right America elect Democrat politicians, who have increasingly revealed themselves not only to be left, but hard left, and who close observers of current events can’t help but be aware do not like this country or mean it well? Because elections aren’t about common sense — they are about money. Unions have it, and as events in Wisconsin and throughout the Midwest have made crystal clear, the Democrats are their party, bought and paid for. Via OpenSecrets.org:

union-democrat-donations.jpg

Follow the list further and you’ll see that other big spenders that lean overwhelmingly toward the Dems include the National Association of Letter Carriers, AFL-CIO, Sheet Metal Workers Union, International Association of Fire Fighters, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, United Steelworkers, United Transportation Union, Ironworkers Union, American Postal Workers Union, National Air Traffic Controllers Association, Transport Workers Union, Seafarers International Union, Amalgamated Transit Union, et cetera, ad nauseam.

Where do unions get all this money to spend installing Democrats in power? In the case of public sector unions, they get it from you.

Obama’s slavish devotion to unions may explain even better than his support from liberal media idiots impressed by his skin color how a guy with an alarming background and no serious qualifications could become president of the USA.

Don’t expect Democrat politicians to act in America’s interest. Expect them to act in the interests of the unions that own them.

Unions own General Motors now. They own the Democrat Party. They own the White House. When they own America, socialism will have arrived.

Democrats keep talking about raising taxes to cut the budget woes. How about they tax union dues? Wouldn’t this help all Americans?

No it would only help the wealthy to get their hands on even more tax breaks.

        Point of order: Define ‘wealthy’.

I’m quite serious. What constitutes ‘wealthy’ to you? Others can chime in, I’m not picky.

My guess is “more money than me,” that’s the usual leftist definition. Its a definition based on jealousy, not fact or reason. Envy of those who have more, and a childish inability to turn that into ambition and the drive to achieve more.

This is why I like the idea of federalism. Let the federal government focus on a few things and leave the rest to the states.

So we can have states that practice as far leftwing socialism as the voters like, and states that are free from such nonsense.

It will be a great experiment, and as long as no state is allowed to be bailed out then it should nip this idiocy in the bud.

So someone with $2,999,999 is poor?

Also is that wages, total wealth, what?

And where do they live, does it matter what the cost of living is in their home? $300,000 a year is a lot of money in Wyoming but not so much in Manhattan.

Their common interest is representing the unions. Consider that less than 10% of the private sector workforce is unionized the two are not synonymous.

Show me one single case where unions represent their membership. Then show me one case where a union allowed a nonunion person to work in their area.

Douchebag, I once belonged to the Teamsters in the 1970s and we went on strike for better wages. After walking a picket line for four weeks (with the Union boss driving up in his Cadillac to cheer us on), we ended up getting a nickel raise. That’s when I dropped out of the union, went back to school, and never looked back.

And this is the number 1 reason why Republicans everywhere are doing their darndest to bust the unions.

    • http://www.wordaroundthenet.com Christopher Taylor

Maybe they just want unions to stop being so political, especially with other peoples’ money. Is that idea that even possible, to you?

      • D-Vega

It’s not other people’s money. It’s the members’ money.

It’s not the taxpayer’s money. It’s not a Republican governor’s money. It’s the members’ money.

If the members don’t want their money sent to Dems, then that’s up to them to state to the union.

But I have a feeling that after this year, the member are going to be demanding the unions support Dems even more.

Except the unions don’t ask the members how they should donate money.

“But I have a feeling that after this year, the members are going to be demanding the unions support Dems even more.”

Maybe, but don’t think that all union members or even most are in lock stop with Dems; Public or Private.

          • D-Vega

Again, if the union members have a problem with that, they can take it up with the union leadership.

Except the unions don’t ask the members how they should donate money.

“But I have a feeling that after this year, the members are going to be demanding the unions support Dems even more.”

Maybe, but don’t think that all union members or even most are in lock stop with Dems; Public or Private.

Right, individual members, not the union leadership’s. If the members don’t care for this sort of political thing, too bad, the dues will be spent to prop up Democrats. The members can state it all they want but that won’t change the spending.

During the Bush administration they had more of a voice to complain, but Obama slashed the budget of that office and put an AFL-CIO guy in charge of the department of labor. So much for the little guy’s voice.

Its not possible for unions to support Democrats any more.

        • Anonymous

If the members don’t want their money sent to Dems, then that’s up to them to state to the union.

You can’t possibly be that fuggin’ stupid.

You don’t think right-leaning members tell union leaders they don’t want their dues spent on candidates they don’t support?

You don’t don’t think right-leaning members don’t tell their union leaders they don’t want their dues spent on causes they don’t support?

I know people who scream from the high heavens about union dues being confiscated from their paychecks and being told to pound sand. That if they don’t like it, they can quit.

Yeah. That’s the ticket. Any public sector job – be it teacher, social worker, corrections officer, state trooper, cop, firefighter et al – you’re given a choice – a choice of giving to Democrats against your will, or finding another job in another field.

It’s bullshit. And you know it. Yet, you still defend it.

But I have a feeling that after this year, the members are going to be demanding the unions support Dems even more.

You just keep thinking that. Show’s just how fuckin’ out of touch you really are.

That’s why your thugs are fighting this. It ain’t about collective bargaining. It’s about the ability to opt out. And once people are no longer forced to pay into Democratic slush funds, the gravy train stops running.

          And it’s about damn time.

And this is the number 1 reason why Republicans everywhere are doing their darndest to bust the unions.

Thats pretty dishonest Vega. There is one union, and one union only, that is the target. PUBLIC SECTOR. The local carpenters union hasnt even made the news. The problem is that they are taking tax money and funneling it right back to the democrat election apparatus. And nobody wants to bust them up. Only reign them in and give people a choice.

Okay, can we know have the list of fat cats not associated with any organization and see who contributed? Since the amounts of money given to both parties is about the same, we have to assume that rich people like the Koch brothers are making up the difference.

At least most of the organizations shown above represent working people, and I am pleased to learn that my money is being put where it will do ordinary people the most good. That we have seen wealth and income inequality increase during the period assessed, one has to guess that the rich are doing a much better job is selling their agenda than the middle class and poor.
