Wed in the Senate: Reid to Try and Force Cloture Votes on DREAM Act and Forced Unionization Act

Call Your Senator Tell Them to Vote NO on DREAM Act and Forced Nationalized Unionization of Police/Firemen

From contacts in the Senate we’ve learned that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D, Nev.) will likely on Wednesday (Dec. 8) try and bring a cloture vote on The DREAM Act and the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act in order to grab as much power for his supporters as he can before his power is weakened starting in the next congress.

Quite despite the obvious will of the American people as evinced by the last election, Reid intends to push these unpopular bills anyway. While Americans professed their desire to extend the Bush tax rates and for congress to address the floundering economy, the business that voters really want taken up is being put on hold as Harry Reid endeavors to give more payoffs to his union pals and his pro-amnesty supporters.

The DREAM Act has been hemorrhaging Democrat support for the last several months. Sen. Ben Nelson (D, Neb.) Recently said he would not vote for it this time. So has Montana Democrat Jon Tester. It also seems that the Republicans are pretty strongly against the act. But it is the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act (S.3992) that is in danger of gaining cloture.

S.3992 would forcibly nationalize all police, firefighter, and other first responder unions. This calamitous idea would take away all power from local cities, counties and states to make rules to control their own police and firemen and force a one-size-fits-all set of union rules on every police and firefighter union. This is a giant power grab by unions, one that will make costs to your local governments rise through the roof.

Imagine the loss of control that local governments will face when first responder unions no longer have to deal with local rules and laws but can force a federal one-size-fits-all style rule on those local governments. Local governments will no longer be able to determine pay scales and benefits and will lose control of their own ability to budget. Reid’s plan will also completely remove the ability of voters to have any say in local matters as a top down control from Washington will rule the day where it concerns local police, fire and other first responders.

Also remember, if a local government wants to fire a policeman or fireman they now have to deal with local laws and home-based unions. If S.3992 passes no local government will be able to fire a cop or fireman without appealing to the federal government, a source far, far removed from the local area and a source completely unfamiliar with the needs and interests of that local area.

Please call your senators and tell them to vote no on cloture on these two destructive bills. You can find you senator’s contact information at the Senate Contact Page.

Again the two bills are:

  • Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act of 2010 (S.3992)
  • Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act of 2010 (S.3991)
