Why Democrats Don’t Dump Queen Nancy When They’re In Chaos

No joke, the top story as of 8:41am on The Politico is entitled “Why Democrants don’t dump Nancy Pelosi.” The next story is “Dems in chaos over Nancy Pelosi’s power.” Starting with the former

To the outside world, what House Democrats are poised to do later this morning seems to defy logic: Why would politicians who supposedly care above all about public opinion and their own hides stick with an unpopular leader who just carried them through one of the worst election drubbings in decades?

Talk to lawmakers privately, and many will freely acknowledge that from a public relations perspective it makes little sense for Nancy Pelosi – who made history as speaker and is now fighting hard to be minority leader –to remain the face of Democrats. (See: Dems in chaos over Pelosi power)

Hey, look, they make a reference to being in chaos.

But many of those same lawmakers will cast their votes for Pelosi in this morning’s closed door Democratic caucus meeting β€” and the embattled San Franciscan will almost certainly win the validation she seeks.

It’s a vivid illustration of how congressional leadership elections are decided by factors often barely visible to the naked eye. It does not matter much what the pundits think, where the polls stand, or who can be easily demonized by the opposition.

Ye olde Politico then gives 5 reason why they want Madame lost a boatload of seats Pelosi, including

  1. Standing up to Obama – after getting through the “House Dems are trying to blame Obama for not communicating better (because the hundreds of press releases, campaign style appearances, commercials with Andy Griffith, etc, weren’t good enough)” shtick, we find out that the hard cores in the Dem party elite want Barry to stay far to the left. Funny, I usually refer to Islamic jihadists as hard cores.
  2. Loyalty
  3. Fear – kinda sad that elected Representatives would have to actually fear another “public servant.”
  4. She’s got game – at fundraising. (and pissing the American public off)
  5. There’s no one else – other than Heath Schuler and James Clyburn (who was bought off), no one else wants to take her on. See “Fear”

Moving on to “chaos”

But a significant share of the caucus believes Pelosi, who became a symbol of Democratic excess in the midterm elections, is the worst possible leader for a party that was rejected at the polls.

Yet, they will elected her again, based mostly on their fear of her power. Hell of a way to run a political party.

And, interestingly, when the Republicans lost in 2006 and 2008, there was little infighting and backstabbing, other than from people in the McCain campaign. But, hey, Dems, please elect Pelosi again. She’s great for the GOP.
