Why is L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa Trying to Kill Jobs?

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa recently admonished oil companies Valero and Tesoro for their support of Proposition 23. Prop. 23 is a measure on the ballot in November that would suspend AB 32, the economy killing global warming bill. Villaraigosa encouraged the companies to “go home” back to Texas. But maybe the Mayor needs a geography lesson?

Valero and Tesoro both have refineries in Wilmington, California and provide hundreds of good paying jobs in his own city, LA. Telling businesses that provide jobs and contribute to the local tax base to pack up and leave while the state’s unemployment rate is still over 12% is just crazy. What kind of plan for growing Califonia’s economy is that?

But the truth of the matter is that if Prop. 23 passes businesses are going to be hurt and more jobs are going to be lost. The regulations that would have to be put in place under AB 32 would force companies to cut more than 1.1 million jobs. Voting yes on Prop. 23 will help ensure that California’s economy is on the road to recovery and is common sense way to help keep jobs in California.

Villaraigosa is cutting off his nose to spite his face by attacking two large employers of L.A.’s workers.
