Geithner Confident GOP Will Cave on Debt Ceiling

If there’s one thing that all rational adults ought to be able to agree on, it’s that the debt ceiling needs to be dramatically lowered, not raised. Yet we read this:

Congressional Republicans are trying to figure out which card to play next after the White House got into some high-stakes poker-playing over the weekend, with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner effectively calling the GOP’s bluff on the debt limit.

It had better not be a bluff, or it will be called again when the debt hits the next ceiling, and the next and the next until the creditors figure out that it will never be repaid.

Republicans for weeks have threatened to withhold their support for raising the $14.3 trillion ceiling unless and until they see substantive commitments to cut spending and reform the budget. …

But Geithner, speaking on two Sunday shows, said he’s not worried. He said Congress will raise the debt limit and suggested leaders from both parties assured President Obama last week they won’t let the country go into default.

With Comrade Obama’s popularity collapsing, the Republicans would have their sails full of wind if they would just do what we elected them to do: cut spending on a meaningful scale. But throwing away our future on a senseless binge that won’t end until our currency collapses may continue to be a bipartisan activity.

In closely related news, Standard & Poor’s has this to say about the USA’s outlook:

“Because the U.S. has, relative to its ‘AAA’ peers, what we consider to be very large budget deficits and rising government indebtedness and the path to addressing these is not clear to us, we have revised our outlook on the long-term rating to negative from stable.”

In response to this news, the once mighty dollar predictably continued to disintegrate.

Obama has made it unavoidably obvious that he plans to scuttle the ship on the rocks of debt per the Cloward-Piven strategy. Republicans aren’t there to compromise with him, much less to collude with him. They are there to stop him and his socialist accomplices immediately, before it’s too late.
