Harrisburg Is Sinking
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania demonstrates the future we have to look forward to if we allow the looting spree by our bureaucratic liberal overlords to continue.
Harrisburg’s water and sewer system is falling apart. Consequently,
A second sinkhole on Fourth Street near Maclay Street in Harrisburg collapsed at around 11 [New Year’s] night, hours after a morning sinkhole trapped a garbage truck and led to a boil-water advisory, spokesman Robert Philbin said in a press release.
The newer sinkhole resulted in the loss of water, gas and sewer services…
Although bureaucrats admit that there are “sinkholes all over the city,” they haven’t determined how many. They are probably too busy counting their money to find out.
Where does this money come from in a town that has been spent to the brink of financial collapse? Simple — the bureaucrats plan to loot the water and sewer fund for their own payroll:
City Council voted Tuesday night to offset a “temporary cash flow issue” with as much as $4 million from the city’s water and sewer fund.
The very fund that pays for maintaining the sewer and water lines.
The very deteriorating pipes that are contributing to more than 40 sinkholes in Harrisburg — and the two recent large sinkholes on North Fourth Street.
Venezuela, which under socialist tyrant Hugo Chavez has leadership very similar to what we have chosen in the USA, suffers similar problems for similar reasons.
Mayor Linda Thompson says Harrisburg will be out of debt by 2014. Similarly, Comrade Obama followed a massive “stimulus” porkfest by promising to cut the deficit in half by 2013. Since then the federal deficit has topped a staggering and obviously unsustainable $1 trillion every year.
By taking upon themselves duties far beyond their purview, authorities from the local to the nation level have become incapable of meeting their basic responsibilities. Government can either be about defending borders from incursion and maintaining sewer lines, or it can be about redistributing wealth and making paper-pushing regulators rich and powerful — not both.
It is no metaphor to say that allowing statist bureaucrats to run wild is causing America to collapse.
