If you are a gun owner, a believer in the Second Amendment, you really, really need to start thinking.
Item: Obama telegraphed his support for an “assault weapon” ban in the debates – never mind that assault weapons are already illegal. What he wants to ban are semi-automatic rifles that look something like a real assault weapon.
Passed under a Democrat-controlled Congress in 1994, the assault weapons ban expired in 2004. Filled with loopholes, critics say it did little to reduce gun violence, since most crimes are committed with hand guns, not bulky rifles with long stocks and barrels.
Used mostly for hunting and target shooting, the AK-47 and AR-15, which is a civilian version of the U.S. military issue M16, these so-called assault rifles are used in fewer than 1 percent of all violent crimes in the U.S., according to studies based on Justice Department data. And despite the negative publicity surrounding these weapons, the rate of gun-related murder and manslaughter fell 11 percent from 2008 to 2010, according to federal statistics.
The ‘AK-47’ mentioned above is not an AK-47. It looks like one but is not fully automatic.
The three justices are Antonin Scalia, an anchor of the court’s conservative wing, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, an anchor of the court’s liberal wing, and Anthony Kennedy, who is often the decisive swing vote in 5-4 opinions.
Life expectancy at birth in the United States is now 76.3 years for males and 81.1 years for females, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. However, a male who had already reached the age of 75 in 2011 has a life expectancy of another 11.0 years, according to the CDC, while a female who had reached 75 had a life expectancy of another 12.9 years.
Please recall that the individual right to keep and bear arms was decided by one vote. One.
Two of those who voted for it are getting to be rather old.
Do you really want Obama to appoint replacements for Scalia an Kennedy? Really?
This should not take a lot of thought. Obama has shown that he is completely willing to break law and rule by executive order. Do you want a court that will not check his power? Do you want a court that will take away your rights?
