No Global Warming for 18 Years

According to the global warming theory with which left-wing tyrants have justified major power grabs and even now plan to justify far worse ones, the more CO2 that is emitted by undertaxed and under-regulated human activity, the higher the temperatures will rise. CO2 levels continue to climb. Yet it hasn’t gotten any warmer for 18 years:

According to the datasets used last year, October 1st will mark the 18th year of “no significant warming trend in surface average temperature,” says Patrick Michaels, director of the Cato Institute’s Center for the Study of Science.

Michaels holds a PhD in ecological climatology, was a research professor of environmental sciences at the University of Virginia for 3 decades, and was a contributing editor to the UN’s second Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report.

No doubt statists are praying to the Gods of Government that temperatures take a turn for the warmer quickly. But Dr. Michaels warns them not get their hopes up:

“If the surface temperature resumed the warming rate that we observed from, say 1977 through 1998, we would still go close to a quarter of a century without significant net warming because there’s such a long flat period built into the record now.”

Not that there is any indication that the welcome warming of the 80s and 90s will resume any time soon.

Meanwhile, the supposedly melting ice continues to expand.

Michaels pointed to record Antarctic ice, which “is at its highest extent measured by the current microwave satellite sounding system” since 1978, according to data from the University of Illinois’ Polar Ice Research Center.

“And if you take a close look at the Arctic data, it appears the decline stopped somewhere around 2005/2006, which means we’ve almost had ten years without any net loss in Arctic ice,” he told CNSNews.com.

Despite the hysterical screeching from our liberal rulers in the government and media, most people get it that global warming is not a problem:

Pointing to a Pew survey earlier this year in which Americans listed global warming 19th out of a list of 20 issues they considered as top priorities, Michaels responded to Secretary of State John Kerry’s recent statement that climate change is “the biggest challenge of all that we face right now.”

“I would say that his order of needs is a little bit out of whack,” Michaels told CNSNews.com.

Maybe what Kerry meant to say is that getting anyone smarter than a box of rocks to believe in global warming is the biggest challenge they face. Changing the name of the phony crisis to “climate change” in tacit admission that it isn’t getting any warmer is not likely to help.

There might be a still bigger challenge on the way for Hanoi John Kerry et al.: dealing with the wrath of the public when people move beyond figuring out that they have been lied to and begin to understand the purpose of those lies — namely, to crush our freedoms, confiscate our wealth, undermine American sovereignty, and destroy our way of life.
