Nearly Frozen Slurpee Ice Waves Captured On Camera By Nantucket Photographer

Coldly beautiful and mesmerizing[1], these fantastic photos of waves off Nantucket are full of ice, making them slushie as they roll in. It’s like looking at the world’s biggest Slurpee. In the record setting winter of 2015, not only are fish freezing in super-chilled waters[2] they swim in, the ocean’s waves are semi-frozen in places. How’s that global warming progressing for ya?

From CBS Boston:

NANTUCKET (CBS) – The record-setting winter of 2015 has left us with all kinds of remarkable images, most of them of snow and ice.

But a photographer on Nantucket found something most of us have never seen – nearly frozen waves.

Jonathan Nimerfroh was walking along a beach on the island recently when he saw these waves rolling in like slush.

The waves were semi-frozen because there was so much ice inside them.

He took several pictures and shared them with WBZ-TV chief meteorologist Eric Fisher.

“It looks like a big Slurpee[3] rolling ashore,” Fisher said.

You can see more incredible photos on Nimerfroh’s website www.jdnphotography.com[4].

There is sooo much ice in the waves, they are thick in appearance. You shiver just looking at the photographs. As the water breaks on the shores, it brings in ice with it. I wager no one will be surfing those waves any time soon. You could almost walk on water there – almost. That’s okay, I understand scientists predicted in 1985 that New York City[5] would look like Daytona Beach. Not quite. Anybody else up for spring? I think we’ve all had just about enough of the snow, ice and cold. Oceans should be swam in, not resemble an icy drink.
