Why Are Feminists Unhappy About Republican Ladies Winning? Feminism, Ladies, Is Not About Women–UPDATED

Rachel Larimore of Slate asks where the Rah-Rah Sisterhood is hanging out after so many women women won in the Republican primaries yesterday. Really, Rachel? This is a head scratcher for you? You’ve watched conservative women being savaged by liberal reporters and pundits over the last year and half and you’re still fuzzy on why there’s no rah-rah sisterhood, excited about the high-profile women winning seats and likely heading for Congress?

Conservative women are treated the same way by rednecks from South Carolina as they are by the liberal feminists (both men and women). Why? Because a conservative pro-life woman is ideologically impure. She is a gender traitor to these abortion-loving purists and she must be destroyed utterly and completely.

Feminists view pro-life women in politics with disgust because to a liberal woman, abortion is the key to being a liberated modern woman. They can brook no diversity and no nuance of thought. A woman ought not dare to express her concern about a baby’s civil rights, for example. That’s just crazy talk and undermines all women, if you’re a liberal woman.

So the solution is to kick it old misogynist style and discredit the woman. If possible, demean her. Draw attention to her body. Draw attention to her sexuality. Imply that she’s a slut. State outright that she has no fashion-sense. Criticize her hair. Be offended with how much leg she shows.

You know, act like a misogynist….to you know, achieve feminist ends. Ignore the fact that you’re undermining your own cause because all is fair when it comes to slaughtering an ideological opponent.

It’s not about being a woman. It’s about viewing abortion as a feminine sacrament. And any woman who leaves the ideological church will get burned at the stake of public opinion with liberal women leading the witch-burning charge.

Where is the like totally supportive, awesomely awesome Rah-Rah sisterhood? They’re cheering the demise of ideological opponents and being misogynist harpies to do it.

Think I’m exaggerating? Newsbusters catches feminist Tina Brown in all her misogynist glory:

Former New Yorker editor Tina Brown appeared on Thursday’s Good Morning America to deride the mostly Republican women who won primaries on Tuesday as “wingnuts” and to sneer that they represent a “blow to feminism.”

Brown appeared with journalist Catherine Crier as part of GMA’s “Morning Mix” segment, a panel that usually includes reporters agreeing with each other over liberal talking points. After Stephanopoulos recited the numerous women who won nominations on June 8, the Daily Beast editor dismissed, “…The only trouble with this one is, it almost feels as if all these women winning are kind of a blow to feminism.” [Audio available here.]

She then added, “Women, too, can be wing nuts, is the point.” Crier offered the developing liberal line that Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorini’s business experience could now be a liability: “I think it’s quite interesting that the whole CEO movement out there in California. Because, here we are with all the Wall Street consternation and, yet, they’re touting their credentials as major CEOs as qualifications.”

Stephanopoulos, a former aide to Bill Clinton, echoed this new talking point: “Meg Whitman head of Ebay. Carly Fiorini ran Hewitt Packard. There’s some controversy there.”
