BREAKING: Bombing & Gunfire Erupt in Jakarta During Paris-Style Terrorist Attack

In Jakarta, Indonesia early this morning, attackers set off explosions at a Starbucks cafe in a bustling shopping area of downtown and waged gun-battles with police Thursday, leaving bodies in the streets as office workers watched in terror from high-rise windows. Terrorists followed up a bombing at a mall with gunfire before being killed by police, but at least two civilians are dead and 19 others are wounded. The two civilians were a Canadian and an Indonesian. Security forces are looking for accomplices to the five dead terrorists: There were unconfirmed media reports of explosions in other parts of Jakarta.

From Allen West:

As Fox News reports, “Attackers set off a series of explosions in a bustling shopping area of Indonesia’s capital city Thursday morning in what authorities said was an imitation of last November’s terror attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.

At least seven people had been killed in the five-hour attack, including five gunman, and 10 others were injured, Jakarta police said. It was unclear whether any other assailants remained at large.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the violence, but Indonesian national police spokesman Gen. Anton Charliyan said the attackers were likely linked to the ISIS terror group, saying, “They imitated the terror actions in Paris.”

CNN says the death toll may go higher. In a brazen midday assault, a team of well-armed militants detonated explosives and opened fire Thursday in the heart of the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. Conflicting information emerged in the aftermath of the attacks, with some officials putting the number of dead as high as six. ABC reports that the carnage resembles Paris, but on a smaller scale and that the assumption is that it is linked to ISIS. “We have identified all attackers … we can say that the attackers were affiliated with the ISIS group,” national police spokesman Maj. Gen. Anton Charilyan told reporters, referring to the Islamic State group. ISIS may be demonstrating a capacity to run multiple operations in parallel. They claimed responsibility for an attack on a Pakistani consulate in Jalalabad, Afghanistan today that killed seven security personnel. Looks like ISIS is actively expanding their terrorism operations. Not good.
