Guess Who Is Getting Your Swine Flu Shot
Written By : William Teach

It’s bad enough that there is already a massive backup on the Swine Flu vaccine, but…..

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told CNSNews.com Wednesday that one in 10 doses of the swine-flu vaccine purchased by the U.S. will be donated to other nations before U.S. demand is filled.

Sebelius also told a Senate committee that vaccine production is well behind demand.

“What we said is once we have 40 million doses (of the vaccine), the donation can start,” Sebelius told CNSNews.com. “There’s an agreement (of) 10 percent donation that 11 nations have made,” she said.

Sen. John Tester (D-Mont.) expressed concern about the administration’s plan to give away vaccine stocks to other countries, asking Sebelius: “So, why should we be entitled, the U.S. be more entitled, to that vaccine than some other country in the world?”

Sebelius responded: “The president has clearly made it clear that his priority is the safety and security of the American people, but he has also asked that we are a global partner. We have joined now 11 nations” to donate the vaccine to other countries.

I doubt whether many of us, or any of us, have an issue with helping out other countries (depending on which ones,) but, perhaps we should make sure that every American who wants one should get one first, then ship them out.

I wonder if those 1 in 10 will include a card proclaiming that the shot comes courtesy of President Obama, as well as asking for a campaign donation and the email addresses of Congress critters, telling them to write them and tell them to pass ObaaCare?

This is proof, from the dems themselves, that we have the best health care in the world…..we dont need all the shots. This does, however, further the notion that dems have devious reasons to change (ruin) our heath system into that of a countries that we are giving free flu shots too.

Maybe this is the underlining goal of Obamacare. Free healthcare for the world! And of course it is free, it will just be paid for by the American taxpayers.

I would like to see a daily open thread where we can post stories of interest and let us comment on them. William, I am sorry to go off topic, but I wanted to post a link to Dick Cheney's speech last night.

Look, charity is a good thing and I can't fault those in power for taking what is in essence a charitable action. But to couch it in terms of "one in ten doses is going to another country" makes it sound as though vaccines are literally being taken from Americans, perhaps under duress.

What Ms. Sebelius should have said, since it's what's really happening, is that the government has stepped up to the plate and has asked the vaccine producers to produce an additional 10% of the vaccine so that the government may buy it from them and have it shipped overseas.

Sometimes the way these liberals express themselves is the problem, not what they're actually doing. Ms. Sebelius wins the booby prize for putting a muddled version of reality into play.

Now we're getting death panels even before the health care bill. CHANGE we can believe in!

  • BIG

I wonder if Alan Grayson is going to run a list of people who died in America from swine fly because the governement shipped their vaccines overseas?

  • Mike_M

“So, why should we be entitled, the U.S. be more entitled, to that vaccine than some other country in the world?”

    Gee I don't, know…because we're paying for it? Maybe?

Well, no. Actually China will be paying for it, and our children will be reimbursing them plus interest later. Of course the Chinese won't be getting free vaccine either.

This government is like the guy making a big show of putting a $50 into the Salvation Army bucket and driving off in his Jag…only it's about to get repo'ed, he's behind on his mortgage, and owes $40 grand in credit cards.

One-tenth? Where have I heard that before? Obama is tithing to other nation! What a joke!

Good thing we have never donated medicine to other nations before.

Care to site an example of when this was done in the past, while there was a need here and Americans were being denied the medicine we were so compasionately shipping overseas, Robert?

During a swine flu outbreak in our own country? Well at least you admit that our system is good enough that have been able to do this for some time.

  • Robert_Ingersoll

    @TheBaud,

90% of the drug distribution is hardly denying America of anything.

  • RWNReader2

I guess all those who voted for Obama, and agree with this diversion of the vaccine, will wait to get their shot until all of us who don't agree get ours?

    except of course 10%.

I asked for proof that this had been done before in the middle of a crisis.

And if we are getting less than what we need for the H1N1, which we are, then there will be people that need the Vaccine that are not going to get it because their dose was shipped overseas.

90% of the drug distribution is meaningful, if you are the one in the 10% that doesn't get it.

Is math as foreign a concept to you as logic is, Robert?

Thats the spirit! Screw the rest of the world. Some of that might have gone to 'Old' Europe. Huh, Rumsfeld?

It is when when all those in the US who need it are LEFT WAITING, like RIGHT NOW, ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

If their socislised medicine is so wonderful, they why aren't they sending vaccines to us?

How about filling the need here first and then donating to other nations, if/when we are able?

Good one Cav!! Yeah please explain why, Robert, Britain with such a small population and great health care is pouring vaccine into every other nation in the world? Same with Canada or France? What about Sweden? Why is it always the US?

  • http://www.superdickery.com mightysamurai

Somebody refresh my memory. Wasn't it the left that complained about all the money, men, and materiel being sent to Iraq instead of being used to benefit Americans in need? Wasn't it the left that whined and moaned about insufficient influenza and bird flu vaccine supplies during the Bush administration? And isn't it the left that always complains about foreign aid sent to Israel that, in their opinion, could be better spent here in the US?

In fact, I seem to recall that being something of a major anti-Bush meme during the last administration. Wasn't the left always complaining that President Bush didn't care about actual Americans and was "wasting" resources to fight foreign wars and enrich Middle Eastern oil barons?

  • SanChez

I'm just so sick of the MSM and the crap they rattle on about, while ignoring everything that is important, I just can't get worked up about the H1N1 virus. I can't remember the last time the MSM hyped on something that was a real problem and I just can't trust them enough to think that the problem is as 'real' as they say it is.

If they were concerned about our health, they would be looking at the particulars of this idiot health bill floating among the turds in congress.

  • http://networdblog.blogspot.com/ Christopher_Taylor

Is this policy different than previous years? I agree we should make sure Americans get access to the vaccine first, but is that different than last year, or the year before?

Maybe so maybe not. But if you listen to obama and co, we need these more than anybody else out there.

  • aharris

Let them have my shot. Every time I've gotten a flu vaccine, I've gotten the flu that year. The years where I haven't gotten it? No flu. I'll take my chances with H1N1; besides, I'd rather get it and build some actual immunity to future strains than have to rely on my H1N1+Seasonal flu shot every year.

But the difference between what I am saying and what my government is doing: I am choosing to forego my shot instead of having my government decide that for me by sending off my shot before I have a chance to decide.
