Gun-Grabbers Make Moves on Ammo

They are as relentlessly dedicated as termites and rust. Remember what Nancy Pelosi said about ramming through ObamaCare against the will of the public:

“We’ll go through the gate. If the gate’s closed, we’ll go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we’ll pole vault in. If that doesn’t work, we’ll parachute in but we’re going to [seize control of the health insurance industry].”

Nothing was going to stop them from ramming through ObamaCare, because it represents a major milestone on the road to socialized medicine. There is only one other medium-term goal that is of comparable importance to liberals, and they pursue it with the same relentlessness: the disarming of the American public.

By hook or by crook, they will limit our Second Amendment rights any way they can. Obama’s latest maneuver: ban common AR-15 ammo by executive fiat.

In a move clearly intended by the Obama Administration to suppress the acquisition, ownership and use of AR-15s and other .223 caliber general purpose rifles, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives unexpectedly announced [Friday, info dump day] that it intends to ban commonplace M855 ball ammunition as “armor piercing ammunition.” The decision continues Obama’s use of his executive authority to impose gun control restrictions and bypass Congress.

ATF is accepting comments on this unconstitutional power play up to March 16:

Calm, politely worded comments will be less certain to be ignored.

If this ammo ban stands, what next? Here’s a clue:

A special commission set up by Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy after the Sandy Hook shooting may include a number of recommendations in its final report from registering all firearms, to tracking ammo, [to] screening owners. …

Besides previous recommendations to prohibit both the sale and possession of any firearm capable of holding 10 rounds or more without the provision to grandfather guns, included in interim reports, the final draft calls for any shell casing for ammunition sold in the state have a serial number etched on it for tracing purposes.

The purpose of the serial number ploy is to drive the price of ammunition into the stratosphere. Criminals are not going to care whether a single round costs 50¢ or $5, but it certainly makes a difference to target shooters. The fewer people who can afford shooting as a sport, the less resistance liberals will get for their next attack on the Second Amendment.

The editorial board of the CT Post published a piece praising the commission for its “courageous” recommendations, while admitting that some of the more controversial ones would have actually had little impact on the event that led to the panel’s creation.

“Courageous.” How do they not choke to death on their own B.S.?

At least liberal establishmentarians admit that their authoritarian maneuvers would not have prevented Sandy Hook, which they nakedly exploit as a pretext to advance their illegitimate agenda.

In addition to registration, the report recommends that, “Any person seeking a license to sell, purchase or carry any type of firearm in the state should be required to pass a suitability screening process.” The process would not be limited to mental health diagnoses as noted by the panel as, “certain individuals are not suited to own, possess, or use firearms.”

Like people who can be connected with the Tea Party, for example.

The Second Amendment to the US Constitution states plainly that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” But as a liberal lawyer would observe, it doesn’t say anything about the ammunition without which guns are useless.
