Middle School Student SUSPENDED For “Liking” Instagram Photo Of A Gun

Edgewood Middle School in Trenton, Ohio had the bright idea to suspend a student for 10 days after he “liked”[1] an Instagram photo of an airsoft gun, which last time I checked, WAS LEGAL! Airsoft guns shoot nonfatal plastic BB’s, normally with compressed air or springs.

According to news reports, Zachary Bowlin apparently used his phone to “like” the photo – while NOT on school grounds and NOT during school hours. The kid didn’t even leave a message or post of any kind. Even with all that, his parents still received a suspension notice in the mail that read, “The reason for the intended suspension is as follows: Liking a post on social media that indicated potential school violence.”

Marty Bowlin, Zachary’s father, was infuriated, to say the least:

“I was livid, I mean, I’m sitting here thinking ‘you just suspended him for 10 days for ‘liking’ a picture of a gun on a social media site. He never shared, he never commented, he never made a threatening post…anything on the site, just liked it.”

Zachary claimed that he “liked” the photo during the evening and that the following morning he was called into the office where the disgusting office administrators went ahead and patted him down, believing that he had weapons on him.

Since then, the family has shared that Zachary’s suspension had been dropped and he wasn’t going to have to deal with any consequences for liking the photo of an airsoft gun on Instagram.

Superintendent Russ Fussnecker, another school administrator that seems to be a progressive hack, had the nerve to send a statement to the local news agency covering the story, defending what his school had done and stating that the school also has a “zero tolerance policy” for any ‘inappropriate behavior’, including “misbehavior” that occurs off school property.

In John Hawkins’ new book, ‘101 Things All Young Adults Should Know’, he teaches in number 16, “Be nice until it’s time to not be nice.” Liking a picture of a toy gun is “inappropriate behavior?” This father was correct to get livid. I would have been all over these administrators, with their ‘God’ complex, sticking their nose and their agendas into a kid’s personal social media account.

There is a special place in hell for school administrators…at least I’d like to think there is, right alongside Woodrow Wilson and Michelle Obama’s School Lunch Program.
