WARNING: DO NOT Walk Barefoot At The Gym – This Could Be You… [PHOTOS]

This is mega-gross. An unnamed man is sharing pics of what happened to his foot because he showered barefoot in a public gym in Texas. He got a hard lump on the bottom of his foot that he thought was a common planter’s wart. However, it multiplied and spread. What in reality he had contracted was a flesh-eating infection that required skin grafting with fish scales from the North Atlantic Cod to heal his foot. This is a technique I heard about being used in Brazil, but I didn’t know we were utilizing it here in the States. It saved his foot.

Warning… the photos are graphic and unpleasant. But this is something we should all be aware of. It’s out there and this is why you should wear flip flops in the shower at the gym. It’s not just Athlete’s Foot that you can catch anymore. You could pick up something far more deadly, just as this guy did. The guy who went through this sent the pics to a radio show so they could be shared with others to warn them.

From the Daily Mail:

A Texas man caught a grave flesh-eating infection after showering barefoot at the gym.

The man, who has not been named, says what he originally thought was a singular wart grew to five, spreading across his foot and developing open wounds.

Despite trying everything to heal it, the wounds only continued to grow.

Now having undergone skin graft surgery, using fish scales, the man says he’s sharing his photos to warn others of the dangers that live on shower floors.

A listener of The Rod Ryan Show on KTBZ-FM The Buzz, who wishes to remain anonymous, sent an email to the show about why you should always wear shoes in public showers, along with some pictures of his ordeal.

The man was training for a marathon at his local gym and would make a point to go train during his lunch breaks.

‘There were a few occasions where I left out my flip flops that I would use when I showered, but not wanting to go back to work sweaty and smelly I made the decision to shower barefoot,’ he said.

Soon, the man noticed there was a spot at the bottom of his left foot, harder than the rest of the flesh, that began to itch but he didn’t think anything of it.

Thinking the lump was a planter wart and not wanting to forego marathon training, the guy let it go. He treated it with all kinds of home remedies, but when it spread and opened up, he knew he had to get to a doctor. When he would stand up, all the blood would rush to that leg and he could no longer stand on that foot. So after six months of hoping it would go away, he went to a doctor. The man says that the doctor he saw began to treat the wart with cantharidin, an agent made from a beetle that causes the area it comes in contact with to blister. The agent attempts to get your body to recognize that it is trying to fight an infection and to kill it naturally. Every week, the doctor would cut away the blistered skin and apply the ointment onto the fresh skin.

The infection kept spreading and the doctor kept increasing the doses to treat it with no success. After several months of excruciating pain, the man decided to undergo surgery in February 2017. After the application of the fish scales, the wounds finally started to heal and close. It’s been two months since the surgery and it will take one more before he can finally walk normally, much less run. The virus that nailed this guy likes water and it can live for two years on the surfaces people walk on. In John Hawkins’ New book, ‘101 Things All Young Adults Should Know’, he teaches in chapter 28 of the book, “Don’t stay in a bad situation because you are afraid of change.” If something feels wrong and doesn’t get better, don’t be afraid to go to a doctor and get help. Your life may depend on it.

‘I couldn’t even put my leg down as the blood rushing to my foot would cause the skin to swell and put me in excruciating pain,’ the man said of his infection.
